He has written six best-selling books, has published hundreds of technical articles, and has lectured extensively around the world to many audiences, both technical as well as non-technical.
Thanks David, for putting us on your site! (And BTW, the leftmost bar in the graph is for 65+)
grady - cool ideas (the demographics and the image).
1. the image is now part of the sidebar on my website (www.advwebsys.com)
2. the graph seems to leave out us senior citizens!
Congrats for successful funding! #FTW! :)
Gypsy, What city are you in? We want to record my lectures so they can be put on YouTube and public television and by doing them at the Computer History Museum we have access to their professional equipment and staff - that is not to say that we have to do all the lectures in California, though. We would just need to figure out a way to get them recorded if I were to do them elsewhere. (We also don't have to record them all so getting sponsored to do a lecture in your city is certainly a possibility)
Grady, When you are ready to do the lecture series please be sure to let us know what it would cost to sponsor you to lecture in our city. I'm connected to enough local groups of Computer Scientists and the like that I might be willing to sponsor you to come here for one of your lectures and get people from my local groups to attend... and If I'm willing to do it I expect there are others that are as well.
You are right Tom! We don't know exactly what broadcasting will look like when this series is ready in 2014 - it might still be network television like PBS, BBC or HBO, or it might be streaming over the web, or it might even be something that hasn't been invented yet (or some combination thereof)! What we do know is that "Computing: The Human Experience" is going to be a world class production and it will be made easily available to people all over the globe - for computing is truly a global story.
As for coming to Washington to do a lecture - there is always a possibility of that - but my lectures will also be put on our YouTube channel and possibly public television as well so even if I don't make it to Washington it will be easy for you to see.
Grady, I thought the series was going to be available via TV, YouTube or some other easily accessible medium? Since the series will be available via broadcast stations or the internet I’ll be able to watch it from home even without DVDs. I agree with Gypsy that traveling to California to see the Computer History Museum is not in the cards currently. Although hopefully you will have a lecture in Washington state so I can come see you live!
Gypsy, I do understand your desire for a DVD once the series is made, but we didn't want to promise something that's too far in the future. However, the lecture series - which this Kickstarter project will help kick start - will be something that's publicly accessible.
(But thank you for your contribution! You'll be getting updates as Computing unfolds, and so will be among the first to know when the various bits and pieces of the project are released)
I was a little bummed.... I dug through the list of levels and none of them included "You get a copy of it on DVD once it's made"... that was the level I wanted to pledge at because making it to the museum to see it just isn't going to happen for me. :(
There are only three words that I can think of: Awesome!! Awesome!! Awesome!!
Congratulations! You've exceeded your goal. I'll try and think of some great dance music!
Very much agree Rob! To everyone reading this, please help spread the word through your network to help KickStart this project.
Great idea and great project. Hoping to hear of a successful raise well before January 3.
