About this project
Dear friends,
Welcome to my Kickstarter campaign. Saxofón Criollo is my way of showing my heritage and I am proud to bring it to you through Saponegro Records.
I grew up listening to Peruvian coastal music. Sometimes it is called “Afro-Peruvian”
and other times it is called “criolla”… but what is important to me right now is
that through this album I am able to share with you the experience of making
music along the coast of Perú (and New York City).
To the right you will find simple ways to contribute to this
campaign. Your investment will
support the release of Saxofón Criollo
in the United States, now set for December 8th, 2011. I will greatly appreciate it if you could forward this link to friends,
family and co-workers who may love music.
Here are some facts about the album: 1) The album was recorded in the Dolan Studio in NYC. 2) The musicians are Yuri Juárez (guitar), Antonio
Vilchez (cajón) and Pablo Menares (bass). 3) Guest artists on the album include the Peruvian
National Symphony’s Marco Lucioni (cello), Roland Díaz from La Peña don
Porfirio (guitar), Aldo Borjas “pollo negro” on castagnets, and legendary
criollo master musician José “Pepe” Villalobos Cavero (percussion). 4) This will be the first album to feature me as a vocalist, on one track, "Eva".
You can listen to a 30 second clip of the album here:
I thank you in advance for visiting and for your support.
With best wishes,

“The Afro-Peruvian Sextet is writing a new chapter in the history of Latin jazz.” --Rifftides
The Afro-Peruvian Sextet was formed in January of 2005 and has since been traveling the world to showcase Afro-Peruvian jazz music. The band is very much a family and in this spirit we present to all of you this great new project by our saxophonist Laura Andrea Leguía.
Saxofón Criollo also prominently features the Sextet's guitarist Yuri Juárez and Gabriel Alegría is the executive producer. One of our honorary Sextet members Pablo Menares recorded all of the double bass parts! Thank you for your continued support of our music.
