Prototypes!
Work has already begun on the essentials and today we've got some prototypes of the Dice and Wound Counters to show-off!
Here’s a pic of the prototype Mantic Splat Dice that will go into every pledge of $35 of more! Samples kindly supplied by Tom Pugh from the Chelmsford Bunker:
And here’s an early prototype of the Wound Counters. Ronnie’s making some revisions to the shape but crudely these will be blood splats in acrylic plastic in 3 different sizes, each marked with a 1, 5 or 10.
Best thing about these are that they are not exclusive to Kings of War – you can use them in almost any gaming system in some shape or form!
We’ve also promised that if we can break through Mummies and blast out Gargoyles, we’ll also produce a unique Kickstart Skeleton with Dog at $100,000 and do a unique limited run of blue Wounder Counters exclusive to those who have pledged on Kickstarter!

I actually do prefer the wound counters, there are already too many skull- or dropshaped counters out there. We don´t need another set of those.

Love the splat dice, I'm unsure of the wound counters though - I actually nicked the idea Maccwar had on Mantic's forum for wound counters using the dead dwarf/elf models, and the posts and rings from em4 miniatures.
Maybe you guys can look at producing wound markers based on this idea? I certainly wouldn't say no to casualty models for each of the other races - not only could they be used for wound markers but they can be used as objective markers or in dioramas too!

For the wound counter idea, you could also switch out the die for a different colour to show when a unit is wavering. For example a red die for normal wounds switched for a yellow when wavering.

I figured you guys would have the Splat on the 6's, but I just had to make sure it wasn't overlooked.

One idea for a wound counter that I think would work well for Mantic, would only require the cost of sculpting a single mini and purchasing a bunch of 20 or perhaps even 30 sided dice to go along with it.
Think of an Atlas statue holding the universe on his back. Mantic could sculpt something similar with one of their races, or create a new Mantic mascot, to carry a removable D20 od D30. Players would then have the choice of placing it within a unit, replacing a mini from the back row for example, which reduces clutter on the tabletop with fewer things to have to move around. Or players could just place the mini next to the unit.

About the Dice: Please make sure the Mantic Splat replaces the 6 side and not the 1. We should be cheering when we roll the dice and see a Splat during a game.

About the Blood Wound tokens: They seem to be very similar to those by Gale Force Nine. Best to make sure they're not too similar.
I agree that these type of wound markers will end up adding a lot of clutter to the gaming table. As a game progresses each unit is going to have several of these markers next to it, which will all have to be moved whenever the units are moved. I think that eventually some better idea will come up, but that's for later, I suppose these will do for now.

Love the dice, bit disappointed with the wound counters :( personally feel a few different seized skulls for 1, 5, and maybe 10 would have looked a lot better aesthetically , and might been have been easiest to produce :/ thoughts?

Like the idea of them in a Mantic splat shape, how about putting a raised bump in the center of each (with a corresponding hole in the bottom) so they can stack up and are less likely to tumble. Keeps things neater on the table...

may i ask how many wound counters we will receive in the veteran level pledge? I have what seems like an insurmountable horde of undead , gaggle of dwarves, and even a small flock of elves. I need to know if i need to bump up my pledge and add on an extra order of markers.

I'm not a fan of having to much clutter on the table and the wound markers as they are mean that we would have up to 4 markers on a unit!
I'd much rather see a boadly circular blood splat numbered around the outside that could have a circular bit on the bottom to fit into a standard base then be rotated to show the wounds on the unit. Sort of a combination of the counters and Anthonys idea!

@ Anthony - we did look at that solution and tested it at our last tournament but the majority of players we asked preferred the drops.
@ Kim - there will be three different sizes and they will be marked 1, 5 and 10. They don't interlock. Note these aren't the final shapes, they are still being designed. This was just a first pass.
We felt the blue was just something a little different and unique to our Kickstarter pledgers :)

I like idea of blood splatters marking the wounds, sort of showing the unit bleed out. But it does depend on the design and shape of them - Are they numbered or does the size alone tell you the value? Do the different sizes interlock or are they separate splats? And what's the thought behind blue ones? The blue blood of royal wounds?

Love the dice, but I must say I'm not fond of the counters.
What I would have preferred would be a peg with a 15mm base (so it can fit in a mantic base) that you put round tokens on to mark wounds. Maybe my mind will change when I see them in person though.
