What I've Done Wrong, and How I'll Fix It.
First off, I owe you all an apology. You all generously backed my project, and thus far I've done a piss-poor job of holding up my end. I've spent too much time trying to perfect the Kikori before shipping rewards, and I haven't kept you all up to date as to where things stand. There's really no excuse for either of these things, so I humbly ask for your forgiveness.
My first big mistake was trying to ship the gantry kits first. As you can see in my latest blog post, the Kikori can make small things with great ease and accuracy, while larger things start to magnify some of its current issues, mainly the fact that the gantry is not square to itself. I've stubbornly tried to address these issues before making anything instead of making what I could and moving on from there. This is also why I have yet to send out requests for info from people who chose smaller rewards.
This brings me to my second big mistake: not keeping you all up to date as to progress. The truth is the reason I haven't posted more updates is because I've been ashamed of my lack of progress. Back when I started this project I thought I'd be able to get started cranking out rewards as soon as it finished, but issues kept cropping up. I wanted to post good news, but the news kept being new problems and delays. I've since realized that when it comes to things like this, even bad news is better than no news, but now I'm fighting a huge amount of inertia on top of everything else.
Which is why I want to thank mcphill and Rusty Grey. They've left some angry comments on my project, and rightfully so. I've been thinking about how best to turn things around for a couple weeks now, but mcphill's comment today is what finally got me to bite the bullet and just start.
Seriously. Thank you both.
Here's what's going to happen from here on out:
First, I'm going to start on those smaller rewards today. I'll also send out the necessary surveys for shipping info and the like today. I'll continue to work on all the smaller rewards and get them all ready to ship within the next 30 days. I've had to take on a day job, but I'll take time off if necessary to ensure that this happens. These rewards will ship as soon as I have the necessary info from the recipients.
Next, I'm committing here and now to post an update at least once a week. Every Monday you will get an update, whether it's good news, bad news, or simply a "yep, still making rewards." I'll also be making weekly posts to my blog at sindrianarts.com; I've got some catching up to do.
As far as the larger rewards go (gantry kits, launchers, and desks), unfortunately those will have to wait until I solve the squaring issue. I hate that my biggest supporters will have to wait the longest to get their rewards, but I'd hate to send you substandard rewards even more. I've recently ordered some new parts that should help significantly, and I'll make sure to mention how that progresses in the weekly updates.
Thank you all for your patience,
Judah
