Most drunk writers aspire to Hemingway, he'd settle for Dr. Seuss...
EDITING CHASE PARKER
Editing Chase Parker is a feature film screenplay written by what I would guess to be one of the very few mother/son writing teams out there. The idea started as a few jottings on some cocktail napkins and ultimately turned into an award winning screenplay. It's a storyline that lies somewhere between a dramatic film dealing with addiction like Half Nelson and a comedy in the vein of Swingers.
In essence, one-hit-wonder children's author, Chase Parker (30's) struggles to rebuild his life and career after the unexpected death of his father. Chase strives to find his way with a touch of integrity and without ruining his young illustrators already unstable home life.
Here is a little taste from our Staged Reading on 5/19/12:
The screenplay has received some great feedback.
- Official Selection Burbank International Film Festival 2011
- Comedy Genre Winner - Table Read My Screenplay Contest 2011
- Overall Winner Smashcut! Screenplay Contest 2011
(Sundance Film Festival)
- Official Selection Sacramento International Film Festival 2012
As part of our prize for winning the Smashcut! Screenplay Contest we won a trip to the 2012 Sundance Film Festival and decided that we need to independently produce this film. With your support we can begin this journey.
How do I get on board?
Kickstarter makes it really easy – just click on the green donate button. Enter the amount you’d like to donate and select the reward. You’ll be led through the Amazon checkout process (a necessity) to record your pledge. It’s fast and painless. We have backed some other projects on Kickstarter, it's really that easy.
If you can’t donate but still want to help the cause please repost, tell a friend, post a tweet, rant about it on the street like a vagabond or let your friends know about us via a post on Facebook.
Donating and spreading the word is like good Karma working overtime..
WILL A KICKSTARTER DONATION REALLY HELP?
YES! Raising this money will help us get the ball rolling down the long road of getting a feature film made.
Are you going to make a feature film for $20,000?
Our plan is to raise $80,000 to make this movie. We intend to have Kickstarter fund 1/4 of our budget and cover our preproduction. This money will also serve to attract money to complete our production and post production. If we are unable to secure more funding we will indeed make this movie with money we have available. That means we would have to scale back some of what we would need to make this film but it can be done. We have invested an enormous amount of time and energy, there is really no stopping us now.
WHERE THE MONEY WILL GO?
Your donation will help get the ball running. It turns out film making isn't the cheapest or easiest thing to do. The $20,000 will help get the two books from the movie get published, pay for recording of the soundtrack, get the lawyers involved to get our t's crossed and i's dotted. It will also help us pay for a casting agent and get some of the above the line talent (director of photography and director) on board.
-Continue preproduction (i.e creating a shooting schedule, storyboarding the script, pushing the screenplay to potential investors, gaining accolades from different screenwriting competitions, publishing the books which are already written and in the process of creating illustrations, recording the sound track, getting our director of photography, scouting locations, getting cast and crew together).
-Production Summer 2013 (filming this thing in August 2013, the books will be published, the soundtrack will be recorded)
-Post-Production Fall 2013 (editing, sound mixing, numerous other details)
-Marketing, submitting to film festivals, screenings Winter 2013 and Spring 2014
As you can see in our rewards section we have different timelines for different rewards. There is definitely a lot do before some of these things can be paid out but we will make every effort to pay these out in a timely matter. Your support and generous donations are making these things possible and we are extremely grateful for that.
What is Kickstarter?
Kickstarter is an innovative, all-or-nothing, funding platform that connects people who want to see dreams become reality with those dreams.
It’s for people who want to see inventive and original films, like Editing Chase Parker, come to life.
It’s for people who want to see a homemade product, crafted with care, and fired with sweat equity.
It’s for patrons, like you, who care. All or nothing – seriously?!
Yup. We’re all in on this one.
If we don’t raise our funding goal by the allotted time we get nothing.
Can we exceed our funding goal?
This would be amazing. Our goal is just the minimum we feel we need to raise to make a quality film Additional funding will allow us access to better equipment, nicer locations and props, and/or a longer shooting schedule. Any additional funds will be reflected in the finished product.
Where else can I keep up with you?
Have a question? If the info above doesn't help, you can ask the project creator directly.
