Daniel Roberts, also known as Monkey Man (Affen Mensch), is the founder and manager of Pirate Cat Radio in San Francisco, CA. In May 2010 he re-launched KPDO, a community radio station in Pescadero, CA, as the station's new manager.
Daniel "Monkey Man" Roberts (who later legally changed his name to his on air persona, Monkey), started broadcasting Pirate Cat Radio out of his bedroom in Los Gatos, California (a suburb in the San Francisco Bay Area) at the age of 15, before studying communications at the University of California, Santa Cruz. He broadcasted the station from Santa Cruz while in college as well as in Los Angeles, CA for a short time.
Roberts was the first unlicensed broadcaster to use Title 47 Section 73.3542 of the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations, which made Pirate Cat Radio technically legal to operate a radio transmitter with out a formal license.
Roberts has hosted several radio shows: "Post-X" and "Monkey and Friends" on Pirate Cat Radio and is now the host of "The News Mongers" and "Plane Crash Play List" on KPDO.
In August 2009 Roberts appeared on Anthony Bourdain's Travel Channel show No Reservations when Bourdain visited Pirate Cat Radio during an episode highlighting the station's in-house cafe.
