The TapIt Cap brings beer growlers into the 21st century, keeping beer fresh longer.

The TapIt Cap
The TapIt Cap is a patent-pending design that ensures the beer in your growler remains fresh and carbonated. Don’t know what a growler is? Growlers are used to transport beer home from craft breweries. They are reusable and are more ecologically friendly than bottles or cans, even if you recycle.
Why does the growler need an upgrade?
I had the idea when my homebrew partner told me his father had quit using growlers because the beer went flat too quickly. Buying craft beer in growlers is less expensive, but the value decreases when the beer isn't consumed in one evening and goes flat after 12 hours. A capped growler can sit for a week or longer depending on how carefully it was filled. But after the first beer is poured from a growler, air flows in to replace the beer. Oxidation leads to bad flavors in the beer just a few hours after opening and the beer becomes flat. I realized that I, too, had begun to purchase fewer growlers. The TapIt Cap has changed the way my friends and I buy and brew beer.
The reactions of beer drinkers who have used the TapIt Cap prototype have been very encouraging. Their excitement over my design has been a huge motivation and has inspired me to bring this product to the market. The first time professional brewer Bill Eye (shown in the video) saw a prototype, he asked the price and when he would be able to purchase the TapIt Cap. I didn't have to tell him what it was, he recognized the function and potential immediately. Everyone in the beer industry who has seen the TapIt Cap knows what an important addition this device will be to the craft beer industry.
Other companies have unsuccessfully tried to create products that do what the TapIt Cap accomplishes. My design works with the readily available glass growler, which thousands of craft breweries use every day.
Manufacturing
My goal is to manufacture a quality product that is affordable for beer lovers. Outsourcing in the US has driven down prices on manufacturing equipment so that existing plastic injection molding machines are now available at prices affordable for a small startup company. I plan on using those low prices on the equipment, as well as higher quantity purchase prices on the tech components, to my advantage and manufacture the product in a small warehouse in Denver. Not only will this allow me better control over the quality of the product, but I will also have the opportunity to create jobs.
As soon as my Kickstarter goal is achieved, I plan to purchase the identified equipment and begin production. My manufacturing consultant has helped me create a timeline for production. The molds will be created by an existing plastics manufacturer after three months. Vendors have been explored and identified for all components and materials.
The TapIt Cap will enable me to follow my entrepreneurial spirit and contribute to the craft beer industry with the same passion I have for the beer they brew. With your help, the TapIt Cap will change how craft beer is enjoyed.
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Having a safe and easy to clean product is essential to the success of my product. Food grade components are more expensive to manufacture. Finding vendors that can assure a high level of quality has been a challenge.
I have had some trouble already with a potential vendor for a crucial part of the production design. While I believe they would have been ideal, their Non-Disclosure Agreement had a clause that gave them the right to manufacture the TapIt Cap for their own profit after 10 years. Needless to say negotiations broke down. We have already found 2 different vendors that are more inclined to build a lasting relationship.
FAQ
-
We do, it's the little white dot in the video at 0:40 in. Managing the internal growler PSI has been my highest priority throughout the development process. During transportation growlers frequently go above 9 psi as a result of warming up and jostling. I have tested failure rates with growlers and have never had one fail below 100 psi. The average is around 112.
-
There has been some concern about the height. I've been keeping mine in the door of my fridge so height hasn't been an issue for me. After some discussion we've decided that we won’t be making any changes that increase the height of the TapIt Cap.

It can use either a 12 or 16 gram cartridge that can be threaded or unthreaded. The number of growlers per beer varies based on a number of factors including beer type, but the main factor is temperature. I get between 8-10 growlers per 16 gram cartridge.
-
At this time, the TapIt Cap does not adapt to different sized growlers. I picked the current threaded version because it is the most widely used. I have every intention of manufacturing TapIt Caps that can fit other growler types and after the rewards have been filled we will begin producing them.

The prototype reward will be the same as the one shown in the video.

I plan to retail the TapIt Cap for under $50.
