Hello all, we are coming down to the end of the fundraiser and I want to thank all you super backers who took the step to pledge your support. You guys are awesome, and inspiring! We've learned a lot through this process and are going to take the weekend to do some planning and make some decisions around next steps. Check the website on Tuesday August 3rd for an update.

      Josh,

I have been a planets fan since about '93. I want to support this project, but money is really tight. I'll try and get something pleaded before the dead line.

      Hi Kosame,

Thanks for backing the project! We're going to support a free to play model as well with the old shareware limitations. So basically, you can play for free but would then only be able to raise your tech levels to tech 6. If you get a registered account you'll have the full game access.

Hehe, I still have my original VGAP floppy disks!! ;D

Have ye considered making this game into a Facebook App or suchlike? Many developers have discovered that the extra traffic from social media sites can = extra $$ and popularity ...especially if they use the "Freemium" approach, where it's free-to-play (to entice a larger player-base), but people can spend real money for optional in-game perks/extras. ^_^ \/

www.planetsserver.com's been down for over a year now, beginning to get those vga planets cravings again. Good idea this. Don't be disappointed if it's not fully pledged by the end either, seems it's just beginning to get word out about it properly.

I know a great many of the old forums/sites are down these days, and alt.games.vga-planets has seen better days... but it might be worth seeing if Donovan (of the famous help pages - http://www.donovansvgap.com/) or Stefan Reuther (creator of PCC/PCC2 and a heck of a lot of other utilities - http://phost.de/~stefan/vgapage.html) would stick up a note about "Nu". Or possibly even a link off the main phost site if some of the contributors are on board already...? The old VGAPlanets webring portal and Cornrelius.de are about the only other VGAP-related sites I can remember off the top of my head that aren't hosts.

Erik it is hosts like yourself at http://thestarbase.net which have made the game possible through countless hours of donated time and resources. This selfless investment by players for no reason other than the love of the game is one of the reasons I believe this project is important and worth doing. I believe with the right structure we can make it a lot easier for you to be successful and grow your community. Thanks again for your support!

I have been playing this game since the mid 1990's. I have seen many sites go away, This project looks like a great way for us to continue to play a classic dstrategy game, and make it possible for hosts to continue their work. Alias: Tyrion

theStarbase.net (hosting since 2005, and with no commercial advertising or soliciting! Ever!) is a backer and I hope this project takes off.

Let me know if my site can be of any use, glad to help where I can.

There are some really good sites still hosting planets (www.circus-maximus.com is one that I am on, and Gavan still plays there), although as you had mentioned in your video the number of sites has been dropping. We really need a better way of running the game, and a web based hosting/playing mechanism would be ideal. You have a great idea, Josh, and I hope to see it get off the ground!

If you are wondering if/where I still play VGA Planets. I'm in a couple of active games right now at http://vgaplanets.dk, under the very original name "Joshua". :)

I was talking today with one of the moderators at http://rcworld.de and explaining that I like to join games already in progress when a player has dropped and try to battle out of the "desperate" situation.
