About this project
“WOODSTOCK: IN SEARCH OF UTOPIA” will investigate why the ‘most famous small town in the world’ has been the center of artistic and counter-cultural experimentation not just since the 1960s, but going back into the 19th century.
The documentary takes a more holistic view of the idea of Woodstock. Aimed primarily at a young audience who rarely sees Woodstock within a non-1960’s framework and generally dismisses its significance, the film will help to identify the universality of rebellion and alternative views and the importance of these cultural paradigms in the struggle of each generation.
The film draws on extensive and unique interviews with dozens of famous and pioneering artists and activists to present an inside and profound view of the entire Woodstock myth, from the beginning of the 20th century onward. Using multi- generational interviews, historical analyses, archival footage, the film will contrast the words of the young with those of their parents and endeavor to give voice to the hopes of the age, the real legacy of Woodstock.
