We passed our goal!!
We woke up this morning to find our project 110% funded! I refreshed the page twice to make sure it was real. Thank you all for making this possible. It is a dream come true. You are all a part of the movie now and I thank you for joining us. And we still have 18 days to go!
It means we can make the movie even better - we can use better equipment, spend more time shooting, more time editing, and offering proper financial compensation to our collaborators (the musicians and artists that are helping us). After crunching the numbers, I determined $20,000 was the minimum needed to make the movie a reality- really the bare minimum. Now that we have passed our goal a door opens to an entire world of creative options that I have been hoping to explore.
The more funding we have the more options we have. One idea I am so excited to look into is using animation to tell a few of the interesting stories about Chinatown Fair’s history. We are also going to work with an illustrator to create a movie poster that is inspired by the classic illustrated movie posters from the 1980’s (think Star Wars, Escape From New York and E.T.)! All these things cost money and the more funding we get the more we can dream and make the movie the way we want!
Irene and I are going to continue working hard on sharing the project with people and we hope you will too. Lets see how far we can take it! So far we have 295 supporters, coming from all over the world (Japan, China, Finland, Australia, and New Zealand!!!). The scope of this is inspiring!
We love hearing from you so please continue to let us know your thoughts! Feel free to email us or leave a comment on the Kickstarter page and on Facebook (www.facebook.com/arcademovie).
On another note, the Kickstarter backers event that was planned for May 25th is being postponed because Next Level arcade is currently being renovated and may not be ready for the party. Our apology to anyone that made plans to come to NYC for the party (if you are coming, please let me know and we will make sure we do something fun that night!). Don’t worry though, the party is definitely going to happen at a later date! We will announce the date once the arcade is 100% ready.
I can't thank you enough for helping me realize my dream of directing this movie!

Can't wait to see the movie. I have always loved Arcades . I have very fond memories
playing the games at amusement parks in the 50-60's....the games change, but the fun,
and atmosphere of arcades don't.
Not surprised that
I would later marry a man who played pin-ball machines for hours in the sundry I worked at
in college...supplying him with a ready supply of quarters.....
Good luck Kurt and Irene....
