Part Photography Publication. Part Exhibition.
DRAFT started with a bet.
By coming together apart from a college administration, DRAFT has become an important outlet. For some, it is a chance to be a big fish in a small pond, but for most, it is a growing artist community for participants and viewers to share and talk about the work that is exhibited.
DRAFT’s purpose is to break photography down to it’s simple elements.
Creating images.
Constantly evolving.
Constantly building.
-OBJECTIVES:
1. To create a publication of student work.
2. To create an exhibition for student work.
3. To build a community for our peers, students, and alumni.
4. To provide real world experience for the participants.
5. To create an outlet for discussion outside of the institution.
6. To make public the efforts of working students and artists.
/////
For the first time in several years, we are creating this magazine without the guidance and financial contribution of a college campus administration. Your donation is needed to help create a publication and small exhibition as an independent organization.
We need your help to create Draft 10.
“The truth is that although it may feel like one, this is not a contest. This is an education, this is an experience, this is a community. Let’s share, and let’s feel good about it.” -Andrea Donadio, Draft 5 Editor

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
After selecting images submitted by wishful and enthusiastic partipants, our biggest challenge lies with getting the amount needed to create the physical publication. As mentioned in our project description, Draft Magazine is being created without the financial help of a college administration for the first time in many years. While we are ready to take on this risk, it comes with a price. As photographers know, printing isn't cheap. With an estimated 250 magazines at 8x10 inches, the cost is overwhelming. We plan to use a majority of our donation dollars to help with the paper cost, printing and binding of this years publication.
In the past four years, the publication has also grown to a small exhibition and magazine release event. This takes place at a venue or gallery outside of the institution, and in a place where the public can also participate in the conversation that Draft hopes to create. Hosting an exhibition also comes with a set of challenges. We must pay gallery rental costs, as well as the supplies for which to hang and display the work.
For those interested in submitting to Draft 10, submissions will open in early January 2013. At that time, rules and guidelines will be explained on our website, DRAFTten.com
