A sonically-rich full length album in the making by Montana-raised, currently Austin, TX dwelling prolific songwriter and producer.
If there's anything that goes above the 100% mark, it is going directly into my home recording studio fund, which I have already started and very slowly but surely am building up, so I can once again record at home and make much, much, much more music in the (hopefully) very, very near future.
ps... if you'd like, go grab an exclusive FREE download of "Farmer Song", the song in the video shown above, go to HERE: http://www.decibelity.net/2012/03/26/ryan-rebo-western-dreams-of-things-unseen/
The world has changed. The music industry has changed. "The people" are the drive of creative ideas, we are the new record label, not a corporation, but friends helping friends, people supporting people with ideas. My idea is "Western Dreams of Things Unseen". This is my best work yet, and I can't wait to share it.
As an independent artist, it's difficult to make an album, and I want to do it right, to make it as great as it can be. This will take the help of friends and supporters like you. See how you can be an essential part of making this happen (see different options to the right, all with cool rewards as a backer of my project).
To get a glimpse of the sound, click the little green "play" button on the photo above, for a music video we made to "Farmer Song", one of the 12-13 songs that will be on the new record "Western Dreams of Things Unseen". I'm very excited for you to hear the rest of it! Thank you for being here, and here's the scoop on the whole project:
I started working on "Western Dreams of Things Unseen" this last Winter, up in Montana. I went into the studio without pre-written songs; the idea was to see what would come out if I just hit "record", than build from there. I wanted to try a more stream-of-consciousness approach than I had previously in other recordings. This album is the product of that experiment. Most of the songs have no written down lyrics anywhere, it all started from a feeling, a couple chords, and a room full of musical instruments and recording gear. Than, I would build on that idea, one instrument at a time, and see where it took me. For that reason, I think all these songs have a life of their own. The result of not "over-thinking" songs and just letting them flow from somewhere within produced great results, I'm more proud and excited to share these songs than any other work I've done to date.
Where it's at Now:
It's pretty close to being finished, but I do need to get back into that studio to put the final touches on the record, finish some things that have been started... probably a week in the studio, back up to Montana. Than the album needs to be mastered, pressed, and distributed on online mediums, such as Itunes, Spotify, Amazon, to name a few.
As a backer, YOU are my record label, in a sense. Putting out an album as an independent artist, and doing it right, is expensive. I've paid for my last couple records, and the truth is, I'm still paying off the last one.. (with much gratitude of you being here right now, I want you to have my last album! I'm giving it away as a free download, to pave the way for a new one. Enjoy! http://ryanrebo.bandcamp.com/album/the-lonely-scientist-ep
Support from you will help with the cost of getting back up North, into the studio, which is located in Montana, and to get the album professionally mastered, get the album pressed to CD's, and the cost to have it on Itunes and Spotify. Also calculated in is the cost of all the shipping for rewards, materials, and the percentage that Kickstarter/Amazon require from the total amount pledged.
If the goal isn't reached, I don't receive any of it. $4000 will just barely cover costs. If for some totally awesome reason the goal is reached before the deadline, please don't refrain to still become a backer, there is SO much more that could be done to further the reach of the album (example: hiring a professional for a publicity blast for the release, hiring a booking agent for a tour, getting the album pressed to vinyl, ect).
This album will continue to sit there and collect dust, unfinished, and unheard, without the help of friends, listeners, and new supporters like you. Please look over the the different ways you can help make this a record available to anyone and everyone. Let's do this thing, and thank you so kindly in advance!
Video by Mago - an Austin-based videographer and photographer
Videography by Ryan Rebo and Kelly Rathbone
Video featuring Marley O'Brien, with her Rorschach paintings. Also starring "Joonbug", Kelly's wonderful hound dog, and "Boosh", our favorite rooster, who is sadly no longer with us. We are glad we filmed him in this video.
"Farmer Song" was written and recorded by Ryan Rebo. Mixing was done by Regan Clancy and myself. Viola and violin by Travis Grotbo, all other parts by me.
The video was filmed on my Iphone. Kelly, Marley and I were just goofing around to the song, and having a great time with it! I hope you enjoyed watching it as much as we had making it.
If you are thinking about going with the $300, or $500 reward for the original paintings, see a few examples here:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Art-of-Ryan-Rebo/231517370207135?ref=ts. My work has been sold nationally and internationally.
Hover your cursor over the black and white photo at the top of the page, and a "play" button appears. Click that and the video starts.
It is. You could pick a reward, and that amount could be sent via check or Paypal, and you would receive the reward just like all other backers.
But, if the Kickstarter goal isn't met, I get 0 of it, than there will be no album, so perhaps wait til it looks like it will reach the goal, to ensure you get a reward for your pledge.
Kickstarter is an all-or-nothing setup, so if the goal isn't reached by April 12th, I don't receive any of it, which means no new record. Backers cards are only charged if/when the goal is met.
Making a quality record is expensive. I set the goal to cover just what I need to make it happen. The money goes right to the expenses of getting back into the recording studio for 5-7 days, getting the album professionally mastered, getting the album pressed to physical copies (cd's), and to get it on Itunes, Spotify, Amazon, ect.
