Two cyclists travel across the country to find out how food goes from farm to table, and create a guide to sustainable eating.

As cars are powered by gasoline, our bodies (and thus our bikes) are powered by nutrients and proteins derived from the earth.  Our philosophy regarding food consumption is rooted in the age-old saying, "you are what you eat", so we delight and pride ourselves in creating delicious home-cooked meals from fresh, local, and high-quality ingredients.

This summer we will travel across The United States and through some of America's most fertile farmland not only exploring the way in which food is grown and the lives of the people who grow it, but also our own culinary talents as we will be camp-cooking the entire trip.  Over the course of our nearly 4000 mile journey we will cook countless meals, and learn an insurmountable amount of information about farming and cooking on the road.

The culmination of our efforts will be compiled in a cyclists' guide to sustainable nutrition that we are offering as our main reward for backing our project.  The food guide will not only contain easy to cook, delicious recipes, but it will also feature specific information of noteworthy farms and farmers throughout various parts of the country.

The funds we receive will be used to cover the cost of independently printing our cooking guide, in addition to purchasing the raw ingredients.  You will feel at ease knowing that by backing our project you are supporting farms and farmers across the country.  If you are an enthusiast of biking and/or eating healthy, backing this project is a no-brainer.

FAQ

  • Kickstarter will provide us with addresses at the end of our trip, so we are picking up postcards as we go, and mailing them off when we return and have all the information.

  • Truthfully, we're really not totally sure but some variation of the "Headwind2011 Logo" (the picture that appears at the top of the page)

  • Don't worry, the souvenirs we pick up may have been found on the side of the road, but they are certainly not trash...anyways even if they were, "one man's trash in another man's treasure."
