WHY A VIRTUAL WORLD

Fandorum is a virtual world that is designed specifically with kids and teens in Children's Hospitals in mind.  The biggest problem these children and teens face (besides their illness) is isolation and loneliness.  We aim to change that.

With Fandorum chatting and hanging out with their friends from school can continue (virtually) without major disruptions - and it's especially during these times that kids and teens need to feel as normal as possible. It's so important that  they feel they can continue with their lives and relationships, rather than put everything on hold.

WHAT WE ARE CREATING

Creating a virtual world means that there are no visiting hours.  It means that even if their brother, sister, father or mother is sick (and can't come to visit them in the hospital), they can all still spend time together.  It means no more long hours, days or weeks of isolation and loneliness.

At the same time, kids and teens will be able to meet and interact with kids in other Children's Hospitals, who are dealing with the same illnesses as they are.

The child or teen's room in the virtual world will be modeled after the actual hospital where they are staying.  This way the world becomes an extension of their actual room.  In their virtual room however, they'll be able to customize it and really trick it out.  And most importantly, from within their virtual room or hospital, they can find gateways to incredible new worlds.

Eventually, Fandorum will be open to all kids or teens.  But for the first phase, a kid or teen who wishes to join, must enter the name of a patient already using the virtual world.

WE WANT KIDS TO FORGET (even if just for a few hours)

The nice thing about a virtual world, is that our imagination is the only limit.  So we'll try to create cool stuff so that kids can get 'lost' in the world.

Maybe if you click on a few thing on your hospital bed, it transforms into a Pirate ship, and you can jump into a Pirate game!  Currently we have a space station picture on the wall in our virtual world modeled after the Fresno Children's Hospital.  When you click on it, you are transported to a Star Trek worthy space station complete with a space fighter game!

The walls in some Children's hospitals are covered with murals- paintings of underwater life and the jungle.  So we want to make those paintings fantastical portals to other areas!  Clicking on the underwater scenes bring them to a underwater base!  Clicking on the Forrest mural brings them to the jungle world.

Help us build new worlds for the kids. We'd love your ideas for different worlds (screens and scenes) as much as your financial backing!

USE OF FUNDS

We have  functioning prototypes.  Some might even call them alphas.  At this point we need to raise $20k to integrate art for a number of locations we have created into our virtual world engine, integrate new/additional features into our engine (cards and gifts), and develop some final features that will make the virtual world functional. Finally we need the funds to find a server to host Fandorum.
