FIRST CIRCLE is a feature documentary about foster care, family and healing in the Western United States from filmmaker Heather Rae.
This is our second Kickstarter campaign--the first did not fund. We are still needing support and specifically to bring our subjects for our Los Angeles premiere in August. We need more than our goal, but want to be realistic and ultimately successful in funding! We appreciate all of the support from backers on our first round and thank everyone ahead of time for continuing to support us.
Blessings, Heather Randy & Russell
FIRST CIRCLE is a feature documentary about Foster Care, family and healing in the Western United States. FIRST CIRCLE follows families struggling to heal, administrators working for change, and the isolation of a western landscape responsible for both the manufacturing of and liberation from meth addiction.
The film was shot over five years in Idaho and Oregon and looks at the several different stories that interweave around Foster Care, law enforcement, substance abuse, recovery and family cycles of addiction. Part of the story relates to the filmmaker, Heather Rae's own family, and her personal relationship to the subject matter. The stories culminate around a societal epidemic that has placed nearly one million children in Foster Care.
We are looking for support for the completion costs of the film and to bring our subjects to the West coast premiere at the Hammer Museum August 23rd. http://hammer.ucla.edu/programs/detail/program_id/951
Screening the film with both filmmakers and subjects fulfills our goal to engage communities throughout the country where these issues are relevant and collaborate with community organizations, faith-based groups, government as well as non-profits to screen film and further the dialogue on a local level.
The film was made by Heather Rae, Randy Redroad and Russell Friedenberg who have collaborated on a number of documentary and narrative feature films including the award-winning TRUDELL, the feature documentary about Native American poet and activist John Trudell; IBID, a mystical road movie that premiered at SXSW and was nominated for the prestigious CineVision Award at Munich International; and OUT OF THE BLUE; a Film about Life and Football for ESPN.
