Photo-main

I am going to Dresden in June to create an installation and exhibit that will test the limits of painting and boggle the German mind.

Niemandsland Dresden Installation and Exhibition

I have been offered the opportunity to take part in an exhibit titled Niemandsland in Dresden, Germany. The exhibition Niemandsland: All Dies und Nichts (No Man’s Land: All This and Nothing) will run from mid June 15th through July 8th, 2012, in tandem with a symposium occurring simultaneously at geh8 titled Nichts (Nothing), focusing on exploration of how nothingness relates to representations of place.

This is my first international exhibition and an incredible chance to showcase in this new venue. I am extremely excited to put together a installation in the space but unfortunately I don’t have the funds to match the excitement.

Please take a look at my website and tumblr and you can see some of the work I've been doing up until now. I will be updating the website with new work recently completed at the Vermont Studio Center residency.

Now at this point you are probably asking yourself “Why on earth would I want one of these Constructed Image things?”

A: They are freaking cool!! Yeah that’s right three exclamation points cool. I know three exclamation points is the punctuation sign of a unhinged mind. I’m not deranged just seriously in love with them. If I didn’t make them I would be trying to one.

Secondly: They will be packaged in a sweet little matting and hopefully bagged well. I’m a little clumsy so that may take the most time and effort. They will look so good you will want to cry. If you are not a leaky faucet type you will probably do an air fist or chest bump when you get it. (Go Ravens.)

And of course you get the opportunity to choose your own. Go to the website to look them over. www.kumasibarnett.com In the Works on Paper section. It’s hard to get them all online so please be patient as I upload.

As Yet Untitled

This is a blurb about the show:

The exhibition Niemandsland: All Dies und Nichts (No Man’s Land: All This and Nothing) will run from mid June 15th through July 8th, 2012, in tandem with a symposium occurring simultaneously at geh8 titled Nichts (Nothing), focusing on exploration of how nothingness relates to representations of place. The artworks selected for exhibition will manifest as landscapes of placelessness, no-place, and environments with nothing. These could be perhaps either physical or psychological perceptions of a "nothing" space, for example suburbia, parking lots, undeveloped land, city blocks with uninhabited buildings, etc. The artwork included will examine unexpected connections between contemporary art and its political, social, and cultural contexts having nothing as the impetus for the concept. The genres represented will intersect traditional modes of representation such as painting, drawing, and sculpture, with post-modern modes of representation, which may include site-specific art, land art, process art, performance art, conceptual art, installation art, institutional critique, community-based art, and public art.
