"Paradise Garden: Howard Finster's Legacy" explores the renovation of Paradise Garden, which was the life's work of Howard Finster. Finster was one of the greatest self taught artists of this century and was known as the grandfather of Southern Folk art. Paradise Garden is the centerpiece of his life's work and has fallen into disrepair after years of neglect and vandalism. Recently, the community of Summerville, Georgia, in the heart of Appalachia, started a renovation. The audience will see how Finster's legacy is redefined to help an economically depressed community find hope.

Throughout history man has molded, painted, and chiseled his way into fame by transforming ordinary materials into contemplative pieces of art. This film will give a permanence to the art of Howard Finster. He was one of the first folk artists to use recycled and utilitarian objects in his art and Paradise Garden is a place that will inspire everyone to think. In 1961, he built Paradise Garden from swamp land and by the end of his career, he transformed it into a magical place of contemplation. Howard said that he never met a person that he didn't love, his messages are powerful and important. This film will ensure that everyone can visit Paradise Garden.
