A girl is trying to win a scholarship & lose sight of herself, but learns to value her true self & the importance of friendships
BACKGROUND:
As modern communication changes to be more visual, modifying teaching techniques must be also change to meet the demands for the upcoming generation. As an elementary school teacher at Creative Connections Arts Academy Charter School in Sacramento, CA, I have found that students identify and respond to the modern communication of movie making.
Each year, my students participate in the making of a feature length film. This year a total of 50 5th & 6th grade students are working on the movie The Good, the Bad, and the Geeks. This movie is about a girl who is striving to win an academic scholarship and begins to lose sight of herself but along the way learns to value her true self and the importance of friendships. Each student has a job within the production of the movie, including acting, cinematography, lighting, audio, editing, movie producing, costume design, make-up, documentary crew, and directing.
Through the skills and techniques learned in making this film, my students learn lessons about what life after school is really about. They learn to follow their curiosity, to embrace mistakes, that the imagination is powerful, that perseverance is priceless and that knowledge comes from experience. They learn that Charlie Brown was right when he said, “In the book of life, the answers aren’t in the back.”
Your donations will help fund the post production DVDs & covers, print shop posters, ticket printing for the premiere, and the “red carpet” screening of the movie premiere at the historical Crest Theater in downtown Sacramento.
