Update on FLOTE production 7.11.12

Update #53 · Jul 11, 2012 · 19 comments

Hi Everyone,

I hope you are enjoying your summer. A KS backer emailed me and kindly remarked that he hadn't seen an update in a while and that's very true, so here it is.

We are shipping FLOTEs out, but it is moving painfully slow. A couple here, a couple there. As some may know, there have been various hiccups which have set us back as well. I've been spending days at Ansonia assembling and packaging as often as I can. Sometimes it's me alone working on FLOTE. Sometimes it's me and a team of people. Each FLOTE is taking a long time to ready, as assembly is quite involved.

Truth is, I take this very much to heart and feel a deep sense of regret over how long it is taking to get this product to you. While so far, for the most part, feedback has been quite positive and gratifying from the few that have received their FLOTE, I know this won't be over until every backer has a FLOTE in their hands. That continues to be my goal.

Thank you for your continued gracious patience and encouragement.

Dave

FLOTE Update July 1

Update #52 · Jul 1, 2012 · comment

Hi,

A quick update to advise you on a delay in shipping, or if you have received your FLOTE, a notice regarding an issue you may have experienced.

There is small while nylon bushing in the FLOTE's Base. It is in the hole in the cylinder and quite visible and reachable. On some units, the tolerance for that bushing  is too tight, which makes inserting the Vertical Support Pole (or simply the Pole) into the Base difficult or even impossible. The solution is to "open up" that bushing slightly by removing some of its material.

For those units which were about to be shipped last week, we have addressed the issue and tested each one. (For future units, the bushing design has been modified.)

As for those of you who received your FLOTE and may be experiencing this issue, there are two choices: You can use a Dremel or drill with a round sanding bit, and carefully remove very little of the bushing material yourself by sanding it away until the Pole can be inserted and rotated easily. This will take only a few minutes to do, save setup and cleanup.

OR for those of you less adventurous, we can send you a new Base. (Unfortunately we glued the bushing into the Base making it impossible to simply replace a 2-ounce bushing as opposed to a 21 lb. Base. Live and learn, and this  has been changed, too.)

So, aside from the holiday, we should be back up and shipping this week. Again sorry for the delay if you are waiting for your FLOTE. If you've received your FLOTE and have discovered this issue, please contact me at dcutler@dcsconcepts.com so we can assist you with the modification or send you a replacement Base.

Hang in there please. I am and will do what I can to make your support worthwhile.

FLOTEs Are Shipping (and Special Instructions for KS Backers).

Update #51 · Jun 22, 2012 · 1 comment

Hi,

FLOTEs are starting to ship out, and although the ramp up period is still going to take some time, your FLOTE will be arriving at your doorstep soon.

As a Kickstarter backer, you will be receiving a commemorative plate in your package. This is a limited-edition engraved stainless steel disc that identifies you as an original Kickstarter backer of FLOTE.

Because the plate is only for Kickstarter backers, there is no mention of it in the Owners Guide that is included in the package or online at the website, FloteYourTablet.com. So here are some special instructions I'd like you to be aware of.

First, the polished stainless steel surface is surprisingly easy to scratch. Please take care when handling it.

Second, please look at these assembly instructions, which are both online and in the Owners Guide you'll be receiving.

http://www.floteyourtablet.com/extras/assembly/

Before following Step #1, you'll need to first place the plate on top of the cylinder on the base, aligning the holes. Then simply follow the instructions to place the Vertical Support Pole into place.

Please note: you can always remove or insert the plate at a later date by removing the Vertical Support Pole (you do this by loosening the two retaining screws located on either side of the cylinder with a common flat-head screwdriver and pulling the pole up and out).

When you do receive your FLOTE, I hope that you'll let me know what you think. Our goal was to exceed your expectations, and I truly believe that we did so.

Thank you again for your incredible support and patience. Just think: because of you and your support, an innovative, useful and beautiful new product has been released into the marketplace.

Regards,

Dave Cutler

FLOTE SHIPS! (and Happy Father's Day)

Update #50 · Jun 17, 2012 · comment

Hi Everyone,

FLOTE has started shipping! Below is a picture of myself and Bart Hogestyn, the owner of Ansonia Steel, with the first packaged FLOTE about to picked up by UPS.

Although it will take us a while to ramp up, we'll be packaging and getting them out to you as quickly as possible. They look gorgeous, and function as beautifully as I originally envisioned.

I look forward to your feedback, and sincerely hope that we've truly met or exceeded your expectations. Thank you again for your support and faith.

Lastly, to all the fathers out there- Happy Father's Day.
