Hi Simon,
Thank you. I'm extremely proud and excited that it was successful. I'm in the process of getting into production as quickly as possible and getting rewards out asap. I've also set up a website for direct sales, www.FloteYourTablet.com. Many thanks for your generous and incredible support.
Dave
Congratulations Dave!
I am very pleased for you that your business idea has got off the ground. Well done on all the hard work.
It's a real pleasure to have been part of this.
Thanks Rick!
Congrats Dave!
I knew you'd make it.
Congratulations Dave!
I would have ordered the second one but I'm concerned with the total weight for shipping to the Philippines.
So happy that WE made it. Extremely surprised that such a product struggled to make the funding but that may have been due to the search bug early on.
I look forward to the finished stand.
I am so excited for you that you've made it - bravo! This is wonderful news, and I'd like to thank you for the firsthand lesson in crowdsourcing, which I've found very interesting. I went to a presentation in Lausanne, Switzerland the other night on this and you're a classic success case :-))
Put me down as another backer at $445 for two w/ free-ship on the second. I can have one upstairs & one downstairs!
Thanks Bob- don't blame you. I've got you down for two with free shipping on the second.
Dave, even though I'm not rolling in the dough I can't pass up the deal. I've changed my 245 option to 445 and hope this note gets to you. Congratulations on getting over the hump and I can't wait to be using the FLOTE!! Bob
Thanks Kevin! It's a great feeling.
You made it! Hurrah!
I'm taking you up on your free shipping offer as well ... Thanks for the brilliant idea, and Congrats! :-)
Way to go Austin! You da man! Thank you so very much.
hey, dave, is won't let me message you via iPad... so I'm letting you know that I'm taking you up on your free shipping offer. also added $8 to get you to $30,000 :)
Dave, This is an appeal to those who have already pledged that are well heeled to order a second unit to use as a gift or whatever in order to get over the goal. Maybe you could offer some kind of deal to entice us to do so! Hope this helps. Bob
Hi SoExcited. I agree with you and I agreed with the Colonel. But unfortunately my filmmaker Tony lives in California. He flew in the CT for the video but is now back in CA. I could throw something together but it would be crude and I'm not sure really show off FLOTE functionality. We did try to capture those features and functionality best we could in the current video.
I believe this is going to get funded once it appears on "ending soon" page but I second Colonel Fubar's comment below. Updates with links to every blog that mentions Flote are great but more videos showing its use and stability would probably be more useful in getting more backers.
Thanks Kevin.
I thought about doing just that while we were designing the FLOTE. (In fact I was thinking of making the cylindrical base a charging station that glows while charging- a designer can dream, can't he?).
But due to the way that the boom slides internally (requiring no visible knobs) we can't run a cable inside that tube and out to the tablet.
The good news is that charging ports are exposed when a tablet is in the "cradle" so you can charge freely while using FLOTE. Also, as we all know, these tablets have pretty good battery life as well.
That all said, it's still a great idea and one challenge I'd like to solve eventually.
Dave
Does it do any kind of cord management? Being able to bring in power would be nice. Just wondering.
Diane, that was awesome. Thank you!
Cool! I'm about to write about Kickstarter... I may mention your Flote!

Dear Pogies,
I am on a search for the perfect iPad floor mount. You mentioned the TurboMount in this year’s Pogie Awards and got my hopes up. I think I have found a superior mount, both aesthetically and functionally. The only problem is that it is still in need of funding. You can view the beauty of the Flote at Kickstarter:

Warm regards for the New Year,

The turbomount is fugly.
Thanks for the speedy response. You sold me, seems great. Really impressed with the design and the price is super reasonable. Just realized I can also use this as a ipad camera stand for family shots/ video which will come in handy! Best of luck clearing the goal!
Hi Atpro,
Thank you for your interest in the FLOTE and for becoming a new backer!
The FLOTE was really designed for viewing web/TV/movies and reading, which require just occasional tapping, typing or "pecking" of the iPad. While FLOTE is designed to keep the tablet in its current position when you type on the screen, there will be a slight bounce reaction as seen in the video.
This is barely noticeable when you are occasionally typing in a URL or turning a page. For more concentrated or prolonged typing, the FLOTE will stay in position, but there will a more noticeable bounce due to the repetitive tapping.
However, a solution I have found is to gently hold a lower corner of the iPad with one hand while you type with the other hand. This makes the iPad very stable and the bounce becomes virtually unnoticeable.
So, if you intend to do a lot of two-handed typing on the iPad while it is in the FLOTE, the bounce may bother you. If you can use one hand to enter text (as I do) I believe you'll be fine. Either way though, the iPad will stay in the position that you put it in.
Please let me know if you have any other questions or comments. Thank you again for your interest.
Regards,
Dave
p.s. I've added your question and my answer to the FAQ section as well.
Hi Dave, I really like the idea of this stand. Are you able to go into more detail on its strength when it comes to typing on the ipad while on the stand. will it move away from my fingers from aggressive typing or will there be some kind of "lock into place" feature that would allow me to type with out any worry of movement.
Thanks in advance, I would love to order one of these!
Hi Everyone, the Kickstarter staff resolved the search engine issue. Everything is working fine once again. Thanks to all you of you who helped let me know, and thanks to KS for resolving the issue so quickly.
I agree Mike, but I think a few more videos illustrating use cases of the Flote, clearly demonstrating its stability, how easy it is to attach ANY device, how to configure it, close ups of the mechanism, etc. would atract more backers.
The base video is great but to make people fork $250, maybe you should demonstrate the product more.
Well said Mike, thanks!
I don't understand why the project hasn't been funded already.
A good stand (one that will not break in the first month or constantly fall over ever time your cat rub's against it) would cost way more than $245 and a good stand from a cool designer would cost a lot more than $245!
I can see it now, sitting on the terrace in my Panama suit, glass of iced whisky, cuban cigar, my Flote and the Times on the iPad... ahhh the life!!!
Reality will be a little different though...
Good luck Dave, this deserves more attention and funding than it is currently getting.
Thanks Craig. My goal was to create something beautiful and elegant that also functioned great. I could have opted for plastic or existing off-the-shelf parts to keep costs down some, but instead I wanted that refined machined-metal look and feel– like a great quality watch or precision instrument. I think we've achieved that with FLOTE, and I hope and have faith that the Kickstarter community will appreciate our efforts.
This looks like a nice piece of design work and machining with a lot of practical application. I've looked at some of the cheaper retail solutions and none of them seem to offer the elegance and (easy) positioning flexibility of the Flote. I'd rather pay a little more to have a thoughtfully engineered and quality item that is both aesthetically appealing and isn't going to break. Happy to lend my support to this project. I hope others see the value as well. Good luck, Dave!
