Say what?
Do we really make sunglasses from skateboards? You bet your casper-flip we do! We craft our shades from 100% recycled Colorado skateboards! Every pair of sunglasses we make are hand-made & hand-finished.
We have partnered with over 10 Colorado based skateboards shops, who graciously donate broken boards to our cause, with more on the way!
So far, local response has been so overwhelming, we have spent most of our extra money buying supplies & equipment just to make pairs for friends & family. This has left us at a stand still!
We have a finalized design, inspired by the classic Wayfarer. We have durable spring-hinge hardware. We have Carl Zeiss lenses awaiting shipment. All of our glasses are finished with a food-safe combination of oils & resins. They are 100% waterproof & they float! But what we don't have, is funding!
That's where you come in! With your help we hope to collect enough capital to begin full-time manufacturing, marketing, and distribution. The great thing is, through Kickstarter, you could be the first to rock a professionally made pair of Eqo Optics!
We are offering 2 styles through Kickstarter. These are:
- 1) Sycamore - (click for pic) This style is made from 1 skateboard.
- 2) Alaskana - (click for pic) This style is made from 2-3 skateboards.
A little background...
Eqo Optics started in early 2011, in my garage, after years of bewilderment at the number skateboards friends had amassed over a childhood of skating.
One day after seeing an advert fro wooden glasses, it just clicked. Sunglasses, made from skateboards! After contacting the next-best woodworker (& subsequent first-best skateboard-hoarder) I knew, Eqo Optics was born.
We spent the next 6 months chopping, gluing, sawing & sanding, trying to nail down a classy & functional few prototypes.
What emerged was really cool, and not only we thought so! Local amateur skateboarders began requesting pairs made from their broken boards. Skate shops began collecting broken boards for us. People were literally trying to steal them off of our faces! We finally realized this may be something we should consider going full-scale!
That brings us here! With a little luck, and help from you, Eqo Optics can begin milling out some seriously sweet shades!

All sunglasses ordered will be shipped early April 2012.

The majority of popular skateboards today are made from 7-9 plys of Canadian-grown maple.
Our shades are made from only these skateboards.

For Kickstarter, we are offering a high quality, polarized, Carl Zeiss lens. Imported from Italy! Choose from Grey or Green.

We have experimented with and finalized a very durable & classic "springed hinge". These hinges are made from stainless steel and flex with your head shape.

If we complete funding, most orders will be shipped in early April. Social media thank-yous, t-shirts, & stickers may ship earlier.

We are always looking for more skateboards! If you would like to donate, please visit our website and send us an email. We'll ship you a pre-paid box to send them in, as well as a nice surprise from the Eqo Optics staff.

Each pair of glasses are hand-sanded and applied with multiple layers of a food-safe oil & resin combination. This gives us not only a very durable product, but one that is waterproof as well!

If we get funded in March, we will send out a survey to each of you. Here you can specify color choice(s), T-shirt size, your custom message, etc.
