About this project

We have reached the goal and then some!  If you have pledged or spread the word or both—THANK YOU.  Please continue to tell your friends, your family, and your enemies.  Any extra help and support means an even better film.  I'm eternally grateful!

**REWARDS UPDATE: May 15, 2011**

There's an update to the $500 pledge level!  The original, one-of-a-kind paintings will now officially be 30x40 in size and mixed media—acrylic, watercolor, and possibly other media to varying degrees.

Just 3 more backers at this level will get us to the goal!

                                             ---Original Post---

One man.  One woman.  One shot.

Homer and Penelope is a feature-length film about a man and woman whose surreal first encounter becomes a discovery of what it means to be a kid, to grow up, to lose, to be lost, to regret, to hope, and possibly even to love, all in one continuous shot.

Russian Ark and Timecode are two wonderful feature films that employ this single-take mode of shooting (well, Timecode uses four separate continuous shots).  I'm not attempting to even approach their brilliance, break any world records, or be technically flashy or pretentious.  Instead, I'm using this method for three reasons:

1) It is the natural and best way to tell the story of Homer and Penelope—to capture how it all unfolds and provide a unique experience for audiences (and one that parallels that of the characters).

2) It is the only way at this moment in time for me to make a feature film at an affordable budget and still pay my team of actors and crew. Sure, lots of filmmakers get people to work for free, but I prefer to pay my collaborators for their time and talent.

3) It will be a unique and creative filmmaking experience for everyone involved and, hopefully, unlike anything we've ever done before.

This means Homer and Penelope is a film that will be shot in one day, requiring a team of talented individuals who will help make this unusual, challenging, and exhilarating approach work gloriously.  But we also cannot do it without your help, as your pledges are needed for cast and crew, equipment, and props.

This film means everything to me, and I am going to put everything I've got into it.  Your contribution will mean everything to the film and help it see the light of day.

Please check out the above video for two of my past films—an episode of Keeping the Lights On and my award-winning short film, Damien.

Thank you for your support!!

—Danny

PS. Even if you cannot support us with a pledge, please spread the word about this project and help show love to independent filmmaking wherever you are.

Hello film lovers!

I am a writer and director who has made numerous narrative films, music videos, and documentaries. I started a small production company (Cinema With Cinema) early last year as a way to develop, produce, and distribute my own films as well as those of other passionate filmmakers creating work outside the mainstream.

My 16mm short film, DAMIEN, has screened at several festivals and PIECES OF A MAN, a feature-length screenplay, was a finalist in the 2010 Blazing Quill Screenwriting Competition. I also produce, direct, and edit KEEPING THE LIGHTS ON, a documentary series about artists and their day jobs.

Feature films are the next step for me as an artist and I would truly appreciate your support in this endeavor. With your help HOMER AND PENELOPE will be my feature directorial debut.

Thank you again!
