About this project

Presently, there are over 50,000 individuals who revisit the battlefields of the Civil War. They arrive in campers and by plane, with college buddies or family members. They attempt to recreate the world of the American Civil War by dressing, living, and fighting the way Americans did between 1861 and 1865. They are referred to as reenactors or living historians. They are individuals who strive to teach others by portraying life during the Civil War as accurately as possibly, and to effectively create a living history.

In this documentary, we will go beyond the reenactments to learn about the true character and soul that drives these men. The Reenactors will focus on five diverse living historians and enter their lives in the days leading up to the 150th anniversary of the battle of 1st Manassas. The result will be a character-driven documentary that creates a personal, intimate look into the world of reenacting.

While our entire budget calls for $8,000, we have decided to ask for help to raise $1,500 to cover the required insurance to shoot at location in Manassas, VA for the 150th Anniversary of First Manassas/ Bull Run.

We are Megan Mitchell and Nick Scofield. Both of us are natives from Georgia, but have since moved to Los Angeles and created War Dance Pictures. War Dance Pictures is a small production company whose sole purpose is to tell great stories. One such story was introduced to us by a close friend who is a Civil War reenactor. Having always been intrigued by Georgia's rich Civil War history, we found the world of reenacting fascinating. Since then, we have set out to tell the stories of these living historians, and ask the question: "who are the reenactors?".
