My photography will capture the lives & culture of Compiégnois through food & culture during a study abroad program.
Project Statement: My photography will capture the lives & culture of Compiégnois (the people of Compiègne) through food & culture during a study abroad program.
What I will photograph: I will capture food of the region, the landscapes in the city itself and the forest it is well-known for, the architecture of specific buildings, and inhabitants of the city in a photo-journalistic style.
Examples of my Photography:
From a recent Wedding, Reception, & Bridal Shower (incl. Photo Collage of Rings):

Who I am: I am a person who always helps others whenever I can, if not monetarily then by action. I volunteer with the American Red Cross of Greater New York (since 2005), New York Cares (since 2005), and various other institutions, such as helping at community walks and volunteering at the local ambulance corps (as an Emergency Medical Technician and a EMS dispatcher). I tutor math to students who need help and give food to the homeless when I can. I live by the motto's of:
"Be the change you wish to see in the world"
“Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day.” (Sally Koch).
Where I am in Life: I am an upper junior currently enrolled in Hunter College. I have only been in college for 1 and a half years but am doing my degree at an advanced pace so that I can graduate quicker. I am currently not well-off financially. I walk to and from school 9 times a week (3 hours each way) because I cannot afford my transportation (metrocard). My mother is retired and living on a fixed income -- she pays 1 one-way fare a week for me. I pretend to do it for fun and exercise, but really that is not the case. I am paying all of my college expenses out of pocket and am unable to receive financial aid for school. I am a very dedicated student and am just down on my luck right now. I refuse to let anything stop me from achieving my goals.
My History in Photography: I have been interested in photography since the seventh grade (1996) and I especially love both food photography and travel photography. Even as a child, I loved my camera, always trying to capture the perfect moments. Sometimes a picture is needed to jump start a memory or to evoke an emotion. A picture is one of the most powerful things in the world.
How you funding would help: The study abroad program would give me the opportunity to go to L'Université de Technologie de Compiègne (UTC) for one month and immerse myself in French culture.
Without your help, I would not have the chance to be a part of anything like this again.
With your help, I would be able to make a travel photography portfolio to showcase, either in a studio setting or at a job interview. It would help me to gain contacts and experience.
It's not every day that you can help someone, sometimes you're the one who needs help. I do what I can on my days, hopefully you will do what you feel you can on yours.
I would greatly appreciate your help.
Thank you for listening.
