An ensemble drama about friendships held together by money alone. We shot for twelve days in March, but we're not quite finished...
“Moving Day” is a short ensemble drama shot in Pennsylvania and New Jersey’s Delaware Valley region. After a successful first shoot in March, the production is looking for pledges to fund an additional two days of shooting this summer.
Chris lives on a five-hundred acre property in the middle of nowhere with his four closest friends -- Lilly, Poe, Melanie, and Ward. Thanks to Chris’s inheritance, they’re free to enjoy lives of isolated luxury and fantasy idealism. Instead, the five have grown miserable together. And now that a sixth - an old friend from a past life - is about to join them, the residents of the property are forced to confront their failed lifestyle.
What Had Happened Was Productions shot “Moving Day” over twelve days in March, 2012. We fought against the restrictions of our tiny budget and unforgiving schedule, but thanks to the tireless efforts of our talented volunteer cast and crew, we came away with something we’re proud to show off to the world.
Just not yet. Two scenes remain to be filmed. We’re asking for your support to help us put those scenes in front of the camera to finish shooting this movie.
WHAT YOU ARE FUNDING
We have only those two scenes left to shoot, which require one full day of interior shooting and one night of exteriors. The money we raise will pay for equipment rentals, transportation, meals for cast and crew, and insuring the production over those two days. Any funds raised above and beyond our goal will go toward post-production costs.
ORIGINS OF THE MOVIE & THE COMPANY
What Had Happened Was Productions spent 2011 developing our first feature film, The Property. Written by Temple University FMA alum Scott Hudson, The Property screenplay centers on a group of contemporary twenty-somethings living out the last days of a fantasy lifestyle gone awry. We successfully raised a few thousand dollars here on Kickstarter and got working on pre-production.
Then, late last year, Scott and producers Chris Armstrong, Denise Donaghy, and Jamie Rubin realized that The Property was too ambitious in scope for the budget we would have been able to raise at that time. We decided to funnel what money we had into elevating the profile of the production. We opted to make a short first.
“Moving Day”, also written and directed by Scott Hudson, follows the same characters over a single day leading up to the events in The Property. Think of it as a preface, a prologue, or a pilot. It’s our pitch for the two hour version.
