About this project
ELAZAR'S TALE is a Graphic Novel project by writer and artist ALEC MONCRIEFF. Project management is being assisted by Dr. Stan Williams, owner of SWC Films and Nineveh's Crossing, LLC. The final products will be owned entirely by Alec, with 100% of the crowd-funding revenue going to Alec and his project expenses.
Based on a long form story Alec has written over the past two years as part of a Story Symposium school project, Alec will create an original 40-page, paperback, black and white graphic novel with a color cover, in pencils and inks, and end with the printing of a perfect bound book (approx: 7" x 10"). This first book will be one of six volumes, with the full-length adventure comprised of 240 pages in six volumes. There will also be some shorter, ancillary comics along the way--THE KATEPARIAN CHRONICLES.
The story is about a revengeful Kateparian king who must fight his ally to rescue his wife and kids before they are sacrificed in the underworld. It's an underworld fantasy, action-adventure, which will center around the king and his rag-tag band of unlikely heroes. Each character will have their own unique set of goals/story arcs, along with a unique personality and eccentricities. The story will be told primarily as a comedy, though romance and rip-roaring adventure/adrenaline-pumping battle sequences will play equally major roles. SYNOPSISElazar, the king of a second-hand city of New Kateparia, is at war with his countrymen's sworn enemy. There to support him is his ally, Nebucanelzar, king of the under-earth empire. The allies attack the enemy ferociously, with thoughts of final destruction in mind.Unfortunately, the warrior was Nebucanelzar's brother, and Nebucanelzar decides to take revenge on Elazar by ordering that Elazar's wife and three sons be snatched up and given a one-way ticket to the lower world where they are to be sacrificed to the spirit of Nebucanelzar's dead brother.
Desiring to enact revenge upon his wife Alvina because of a previous argument, Elazar delays from organizing a rescue. But when a battle-hardened deserter from Nebucanelzar's company informs Elazar that his wife has been raped and his kids have been beaten, the cold glint of steel again radiates from Elazar's eyes and the rescue is on.Elazar and his men storm the lower world. Nebucanelzar makes frequent attacks on Elazar's army, and Elazar in turn leaves a path of fiery destruction through local village communities. After the ashes settles, and the blood has run from his father's swords, given to Elazar for the sole purpose of defending the innocent, Elazar chooses to forbear Nebucanelzar's attacks, pursuing the family instead of continued violence.
The walls of King Nebucanelzar's city are reached, and Elazar prepares a siege. In gritty, blood drenched combat, Nebucanelzar personally gores Elazar's most trusted general, and the army of the over-world is dispatched. The malicious sacrifice draws near, all hope of rescuing the beloved family from within the looming walls seems forever lost. But Elazar has another plan....

I gave my book this title so that it would not just be another book on the store shelf that people will glance over. A person is more likely to pull a "bad" sounding book off the shelf, as opposed to something that is non-descriptive, mundane, similar to other books, or just plain dumb, like "Billy watches the linoleum curl." I threw in the "Elazar's Tale" bit to appeal to fantasy readers, adding "blood path to hell" to make it sound exciting.

No, although I'm planning on having plenty of gore and violence, the story is more of an adventure comedy than anything else.

This is NOT a kids' book, but is geared more towards older teens and adults. Just because it features cartoon-style characters does not mean it's geared towards younger audiences. This book features mature content, and portrays some hard parts of life.

OF COURSE! Aside from epic adventure side of the story, the next biggest part of the story is the romance between Elazar and his wife Alvina. Another part of the story features a character who is trying to reunite with his ex-fiancée, who had ran away from him. Since women like stories that are in the psychological realm, I intend to put effort into delving into the inner workings of the character's minds. I LOVE romance(not the sappy mushy stuff; I like to take a more thoughtful and realistic approach), so you can bet I will definitely take my job seriously in this regard. But let me tell you ladies....adventure and romance were meant to go together, so don't be turned of by the marchioness of the title.
