El Dorado is an album I spent 11 months recording in my basement apartment. Now comes that time for artwork and duplication...
El Dorado is a project that's been in the works for the past few years. Beginning in 2009, I started recording in my basement apartment in Brooklyn. I collected microphones and other equipment from friends and fellow band mates. Next, it was mixed and mastered, and now the album is complete. This entire process lasted well into 2010. Since finishing the album, I feel it is an honest statement and something I'm proud of. It is now time for the final part of making an album; artwork and dupication. This is why I have posted my project onto Kickstarter.com.
The creation of "El Dorado" reflects modernity as well as posterity, in that, the easy accessibility of libraries of music and art allowed by modern technology brings a wider array of inspirations to any artist. It's a celebration of this opportunity we have. It is evident in the music and recording process. Each track carries the air of an era; personality, humor, longing, sadness, happiness, and appreciation for life and the opportunity to make an artistic statement are present. In the recording process, the use of tape as a recording medium is an evident example of inspirations drawn from posterity . The subtle wow and flutter, the rich saturation of sound on tape, and even dust that is recorded onto the tape brings a nostalgic quality to the music. After hearing "El Dorado", my friend Alan compared the record to "an old piece of living room furniture". At first, that sounds humorous, but something as simple as that took him back to something familiar and comfortable.
This is a reason why I want to release to vinyl.
Vinyl is a natural extension of the process, inspiration, and philosophy of the record. El Dorado is an experience. Listening to the sounds and compositions of the record on vinyl will be the last step in the creation. Its production on vinyl embodies the spirit of the record and it is my desire as an artist to present my work on this medium.
That said, I plan on doing a limited edition LP release of "El Dorado" and if you donate, you will get a copy of the LP. Your donations will help pay for artwork, vinyl pressing, and CD duplication.
