First Bisque... CHECK!
Hello All,
The first bisque was a great success and the glaze is all mixed up and ready to go! It's feeling good to have all of the pieces of the puzzle locked in. Until now, each step in the process was the first time in this studio and so each time I got to the next step, time was needed to put systems in place. With this final stage of the process lined up it's possible to get a rhythm going, which I'm a big fan of! Here are some photos of the process over the last couple of days...

Tonight and tomorrow I will be glazing these and loading up the kiln again for the first glaze firing headed to Cone 6/7 or about 2230 degrees Farenheit... Yes... That's hot! Sadly, I cannot capitalize on this heat to help warm the studio... Well, it does warm the studio, but it also off-gasses Sulfur Dioxide and Carbon Monoxide. From the bisque experience, I can safely say that even with the doors open, it feels unpleasant hanging out for an extended period of time around those gasses...
So... Saturday should be the day we first get to see a finished product come out of the kiln. My intention as I mentioned in the last update was to invite all of you who are able to come on up to witness that event and take your salt bowl or sipping mug with you after checking out the studio and sharing a glass of wine. While I would still like to do that, nature is proving to me that it can't be bent to my will. It should follow logically that because it is WINTER, it will be cold and thus outside temperatures unfit for outdoor entertainment... this is a concept I have yet to grasp after moving from warmer climes and so I regret to inform you that I will not be holding said party for fear of suggesting freezing your butt off with me in the studio.
