Kocho is an interdisciplinary work with music by Garrett Fisher, choreography by Christy Fisher, performed by the Fisher Ensemble.
Kocho is a dreamworld that surrounds you with gorgeous site and sound, celebrating the fleeting and magical nature of beauty.
On September 23 (2011) the Fisher Ensemble will premiere Kocho at the Galapagos Art Space (NYC), with music by Garrett Fisher, choreography by Christy Fisher, direction by Benjamin Mosse, art installation by Louise McCagg, words by Amy Schrader, video by Ryan K Adams, and costumes by Zane Philstrom. It will be produced by Beth Morrison Projects.
We'll also be presenting the piece on August 27 in Seattle before we take it to NYC.
Kocho is intended to be a site-specific piece. It's the tenth full length piece we've created that bridges ancient and the modern traditions, and what the New York Times calls "a groundbreaking hybrid." While Kocho tells the story of a priest who "liberates" a butterfly by letting it dance under the plum blossom, our main aim is to allow the audience to enjoy and experience the lyricism of the words and images.
We're drawn to the Galapagos Art Space because we believe it will offer an unforgettable experience. With great acoustics, Galapagos offers walkways, a stage, and balcony and will allow us to perform the piece in and around the audience, to immerse them in the music and theater. Pools of water are spread throughout the venue, as well as evocative lighting which will help transform the space into mythical world where past and present meet.
The score includes a combination of 6 string fretted acoustic bass (Greg Bagley), flute (Margaret Lancaster), trombone (Jennifer Hinkle), Indian harmonium (Garrett Fisher), gongs and percussion (Dean Moore) and includes 5 vocalists (Shawna Avinger, Daniel Brylow, Jeremiah Cawley, Maria Mannisto, and Kathea Yarnell), and silent dancer (Christy Fisher).

Where does the money go?
Your support will go to travel expenses (10 people from Seattle to New York), lodging, per diems and fees, as well as theater expenses and rentals. As we are a registered nonprofit, all funding is closely monitored by a board of directors.
We see this wonderful opportunity as an investment in our ensemble's future. With the help of internationally acclaimed Beth Morrison Projects, we aim to reach a wider audience and to find venues both in the US and abroad that will take interest in our work. Your support is crucial in making this dream a reality and we appreciate you taking time to get to know us.

It's a feature length film based on the musical theater piece by Garrett Fisher. Magda Goebbels (aka the "1st Lady of Nazi Germany") is a Hapsburgian DNA blend of Fellini, Almodovar, the Coen Brothers, and Lynch. A mix of hallucinatory fantasy, absurdity, surrealistically dark comedy, Nazis and drag queens, Magda Goebbels tells the story of an actor whose blurred relationship between her life and cabaret act unhinges her at her leather seams.
