SAY YES! celebrates the commonality of Islam, Judaism and Christianity through musical traditions and texts of each faith.
Building Bridges Between Christians, Muslims and Jews Through Music.
In 2008 thirty actors got together to exercise their collective imagination. Out of this ActorCor was born. ActorCor is a unique choral ensemble comprised of New York actors. We have developed a concert that celebrates the commonality of Islam, Judaism and Christianity. Our production SAY YES! interweaves the sacred texts and musical styles of the three faiths. We sing in Arabic, Hebrew, Urdu, Yiddish, Latin and English, mixing musical styles from Pakistani Qawwali to English Cathedral Anthems, Shabbat Worship Music to African-American Spirituals, Gospel and more.
We will present SAY YES! at 5pm on Sunday, January 15, 2012 at All Soul's Unitarian Church on the Upper East Side of Manhattan (80th and Lexington). Thanks to the funds raised through our Kickstarter campaign we will be able to professionally record and produce a CD of the live performance.
- Included in SAY YES! will be the debut of WE WALK OUR PATHS by Benjamin Ulbricht, the winner of ActorCor's Third Annual Interfaith Choral Composition Competition — a competition created to encourage new interfaith choral music.
- We will also perform I LIFT MY EYES TO THE HILLS. ActorCor commissioned an Arabic setting of Psalm 121 from Palestinian composer Akram Haddad.
- The art exhibition, ARAB SPRING, presented by students from the Alexander Robertson School, will be displayed around the concert hall.
- SAY YES! features the music of ActorCor's Composer-In-Residence, Robinson McClellan. Come hear his TRI-FAITH CELEBRATION which combines music by Gustav Holst, Qawwali singer Nusrat Ali Khan, and a Hassidic folk song.
ActorCor is a vibrant community of singing actors. In SAY YES! we bypass mere tolerance and go directly to celebration! Thank you for funding our production and recording costs of $2500. Any additional funding received will be used for studio touch-up and producing another SAY YES! in the greater NYC metro area.
