About this project
I'm Johnny B. Gerardy and I'm working with my friend Tom Carroll to complete the sequential art for his cookbook, called "Batter! Broil!! Baste!!! The Comic Book Creators Cookbook." Recipes inside the book are from such legends as Neil Gaiman (Sandman, Coreline), Steve Rude (Nexus), Dave Dorman (Star Wars, Wasted Lands), Mike Grell (The Warlord), Syd Mead (Tron, Blade Runner), P. Craig Russell (Killraven, Elric, Night Music), Len Wein (Swamp Thing, X-Men, Justice League), Bernie Wrightson (Swamp Thing, Frankenstein, Meat Loaf covers) Mark Evanier (Groo), and many others. But I need some backing to make this a reality.
That’s where you come in, fans of comic books, or cookbooks, or both. Through the magic of Kickstarter.com you can back me and qualify for a raft of fabulous cookbook art-related booty based on how well you back him. Backing me will make it possible for meto devote myself fully and completely to this project. And along the way you will be able to watch me make some of the most singularly unusual, yet completely delicious comic book artwork ever envisioned by humankind. Think I’m exaggerating? Check it out on my updates.
You can also check out the work of color artist Emily Bolles. She is working hand in hand with me to make this project as good as it possibly can be.
Already I've has created a cadre of culinary superheroes that includes: Supperman, Deli Doll, Shish-kabub, Transfatman and Busboy, The Tenderizer, Speedo, and The Green Ladle. I will post my sketches and inked visuals as they're finished.
The cover to the book is completed and serves as part of the reward system for this project. Johnny is ready to begin scripting and drawing sequential pages that will separate the major sections of the cookbook.
As a reward for backing me you will make off with an amazing haul of swag, including: -- signed mini concept art-cards,
-- digital .pdf files of sequential art,
-- pencil sketches,
-- cover posters,
-- your name mentioned in the book,
-- being included in the sequential art as:
------- yourself, as you appear now,
------- a superhero, one that you craft with Johnny B.'s assistance,
and finally …
-- everything along with an autographed copy of the actual cookbook.
So keep checking back for more updates. I look forward to receiving word of your backing and to helping you get to know the project better!!

Free thinker, writer of comics, motion comics, stories, and video, videogame art maker, great collaborator with other creative people. In a nutshell, that is me.
Two years ago things began to pick up speed. I wrote "P.O.D.: The Nexus" for artist/creator Mat Broome. It was published in 2008 by Zondervan Press, a division of Harper Collins. What a great experience it was since the comic was published along with a CD of P.O.D.'s music. Over the top!
That year while working my Artists Alley table at the San Diego Comic Con I met Brad Boyink, marketing pro with Meal Magic. He needed a comic book team to put out the next Meal Magic corporate comic and I stuck with them while they drafted the script and did a sample layout. In 2009 my art / inking partner Johnny B. Gerardy and I completed the comic, called "A Tale of Two Schools," and Brad and his boss, Jim, were very happy with the results. The comic is being printed now and will be distributed to Meal Magic clients, schools, and other potential buyers. Look for us at the San Diego Comic Con 2010; we'll have copies!!
I am now working on two projects:
First is a cookbook called, "Batter! Broil!! Baste!!! The Comic Book Creators Cookbook," that has already been picked up for publication by Square One Publishing. The catch, I am looking for someone at Kickstarter.com to toss an invitation my way so I can raise money to pay Johnny B. Gerardy to complete artwork for the book. THE COMIC BOOK CREATORS COOKBOOK IS DEFINITELY THE PROJECT FOR KICKSTARTER.COM because without funding, Johnny B. Gerardy , who is putting the sequential artwork together, won't be able to contribute.
Second, my own comic, "Gun Nose Presents," is a look at a hard core conservative transmogrified into his worst visual nightmares and cast into an alternate reality where he is forced to be a talk show host. Lots of humor, lots of surprises. Look for it soon on Kickstarter.com.
