Update #17: NEW LEADER OF THE GGA: LADY ORGANICA!!! (tm)

Posted on February 17, 2010

This just in: LADY ORGANICA (tm) TAKES CHARGE OF THE GOURMET GUILD OF AMERICA. She's new, she's hot, and no one knows better how to customize favorite foods to fit a nutritional plan (and as far as superhero powers go, there ain't none better)!!

She's Lady Organica, the cosmic alter ego to Chef Brooke Alexandra, and Johnny B. Gerardy's is getting the first sketch ready to ink on his drawing table.

Lady Organica's fashion look will probably be like a fairly large flowy bohemian magical turquoise and purple gown, maybe high in the front wrapping down to the ground in the back. The character's crystal healing spoon will be present, with its powers on full display. The outfit will also include boots, possibly mid-calf or knee high. These decisions have yet to be made, but we're open to suggestions!

The sketch that Johnny B. completed so far is very much like the "Clark Kent version" of Lady Organica, a look that incorporates more everyday fashion choices and allows her to go out into the everyday world. This allows her transformation into Lady Organica to be even more powerful and visual. Think Marvel Comics' Phoenix character, but with a bit more fashion sense.

Many of the cool touches for character look and powers will now start moving this through the pipeline. If you're a fan of Chef Brooke, help out this process by backing the project. It will be fun, and you'll be able to earn a special copy of the completed Lady Organica inked concept, in addition to everything else in your rewards package. The concept art will be hand signed by Chef Brooke Alexandra and artist Johnny B. Gerardy.

FANS OF CHEF BROOKE: Please leave your comments about how YOU see Lady Organica in our Comments section. We'll weigh each and every one of them as we come up with an appropriate superhero costume for your favorite celebrity chef.

Update #16: FIRST LOOK: Character Montage in the Official Cookbook Cover

Posted on February 16, 2010

Have they ever looked any better? They ooze character, and we mean that in the nicest way possible. The only cooler character combo will be the finished Kickstarter-only poster ... and there will be a new update on that in a few days.

Update #15: Hot Off Johnny B.'s Drawing Board: Pencils for the Poster

Posted on February 16, 2010

As I was filming a few updates, etc., I snapped video of the pencils for the special Kickstarter-only poster that Johnny is making. These are the finished pencils, but they're not completely finished, because they lack the leader of the group (still a secret) and also Johnny wants to work in three wannabe characters who will be trying out for the Gourmet Guild of America during one of the sequential sections.

So hang on, true believer. We will update you whenever there is a significant change to the poster so you can feel like you're part of the process. And for anyone who has not pledged to Johnny B., this is a good opportunity!!! Remember, the poster will be printed on quality paper and will be signed by Johnny B.

Update #7: FIRST LOOK: Kickstarter Backer's Cover Poster

Posted on February 10, 2010

Johnny B. has begun to put the cover poster together for Kickstarter supporters who back at the $40 level. It will feature all of the culinary superheroes -- Supperman, Shish-kabub, Deli Doll, Green Ladle, and Speedo -- each in his or her typical action pose. With typography and color, well ... reserve a place of honor in your collection for this baby. The next poster update will feature a scan of the poster once it is completely rendered in Johnny's inimitable hand-brushed style.

Update #6: NEW CHARACTER: The GREEN LADLE

Posted on February 9, 2010

Here is Johnny B. to introduce the newest character in the superhero team. He is GREEN LADLE and he is, of course, a parody of Green Lantern. Can you imagine if there were a Green Ladle Corps, each one of the chosen carrying around a different sort of ladle instrument and cooking pot to draw steaming hot energy from? To say this would be delectable would be to undervalue the word delectable!
More updates this week on new characters, bad guys, and the design of the special KICKSTARTER poster that is one of the rewards.

Tom Carroll

Has not connected their Facebook account.

Free thinker, writer of comics, motion comics, stories, and video, videogame art maker, great collaborator with other creative people. In a nutshell, that is me.

Two years ago things began to pick up speed. I wrote "P.O.D.: The Nexus" for artist/creator Mat Broome. It was published in 2008 by Zondervan Press, a division of Harper Collins. What a great experience it was since the comic was published along with a CD of P.O.D.'s music. Over the top!

That year while working my Artists Alley table at the San Diego Comic Con I met Brad Boyink, marketing pro with Meal Magic. He needed a comic book team to put out the next Meal Magic corporate comic and I stuck with them while they drafted the script and did a sample layout. In 2009 my art / inking partner Johnny B. Gerardy and I completed the comic, called "A Tale of Two Schools," and Brad and his boss, Jim, were very happy with the results. The comic is being printed now and will be distributed to Meal Magic clients, schools, and other potential buyers. Look for us at the San Diego Comic Con 2010; we'll have copies!!

I am now working on two projects:

First is a cookbook called, "Batter! Broil!! Baste!!! The Comic Book Creators Cookbook," that has already been picked up for publication by Square One Publishing. The catch, I am looking for someone at Kickstarter.com to toss an invitation my way so I can raise money to pay Johnny B. Gerardy to complete artwork for the book. THE COMIC BOOK CREATORS COOKBOOK IS DEFINITELY THE PROJECT FOR KICKSTARTER.COM because without funding, Johnny B. Gerardy , who is putting the sequential artwork together, won't be able to contribute.

Second, my own comic, "Gun Nose Presents," is a look at a hard core conservative transmogrified into his worst visual nightmares and cast into an alternate reality where he is forced to be a talk show host. Lots of humor, lots of surprises. Look for it soon on Kickstarter.com.
