A pastoral tragicomedy about tangled, misguided artists, taking root as a series of recalled memories, set in the boozy 1920s
WANDERING BARK THEATRE COMPANY
PRESENTS
THE SEAGULL
By Anton Chekhov
A new translation by Graham Schmidt
Directed by Kate Eminger
Anton Chekov’s The Seagull, a timeless play following the dreamy lives of a family of artists, delivers an important message to modern audiences. Today, the pursuit of love and success come with the heavy cost of sacrifice, in some inevitable capacity. Regret, manifested with a blithe sense of humor, has become so consistent in human nature it practically runs though our veins, and as a result, transforms our work.
This production attempts to break open and examine our inescapable battle to compare ourselves and our work. We will look inward, and, more importantly, backward, at the realities of the young writer, Konstantin, and view his successes and failures though the thin veil of regretful memory. This pastoral tragicomedy about three generations of tangled, self-doubting artists, will take root as a play within a memory within a play, set in the boozy 1920's.
OUR GOAL
Our minimum goal is to raise $4,500 which will pay for rehearsal space and rental of The Secret Theatre. Additional funds beyond our minimum goal will allow us to put more funds into our design budgets and offer stipends to all the artists committing their time and talent to this project.
OUR HISTORY
Last season Wandering Bark Theatre Company mounted our inaugural production of OTHELLO, which ran at The Secret Theatre in October 2011. Set in the present day on a military base in America, the production layered post-traumatic stress disorder and other issues our veterans are dealing with today on top of the classic tragic play.
