About this project
I'd like to hike the entire 2,175 mile-long Appalachian Trail this upcoming year and make a documentary of the adventure. It took me five years and four films to complete the Pacific Crest Trail (walkpct.com) so, this time, I realllly want to do a full thru-hike in one calendar year. I plan to take 6 1/2 months to complete the trail with 3 to 4 months of editing following that. The money would go towards food, gas, some lodging, SD cards for my HD camera and any additional gear I may end up having to replace along the way (any leftover funding, once the project is complete, will go to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy). Instead of a linear South-to-North or North-to-South jaunt, I want to do a flip-flop-flip hike (i.e. head North for awhile, then hitchhike or get rides from friends uptrail, then head South, etc.). That way, I increase my chances of running into folks I met earlier in the year in order to get their thoughts on how the hike has impacted them. I'd like the focus of the film, much like my PCT films, to be about the variety of people who partake of the long trail experience.
