OK, OK—Stretch Goal #7!

Update #20 · Jun 7, 2012 · 32 comments

Since you've already brought us almost two-thirds of the way to stretch goal #6 in under six hours, looks like we're going to have to pony up another one! Besides, we think that being able to tell potential shareholders that we raised a quarter of a million dollars for our Tech Demo in just a month would sound really, really good!

So...  if we reach $250,000, we're going to spiff up the $100 reward level with not one but TWO Flip-Mats, representing all four of the lower dungeon levels.

For those of you not already familiar with Paizo's Flip-Mats, these are portable, foldable, double-sided gaming mats coated with a special erasable surface that you can write on with dry erase, wet erase, or even permanent markers.  Flip-Mats use the standard miniatures scale of 1"=5'. They measure 24" x 30" unfolded, and fold down to a convenient 8" x 10". Because there are different maps printed on each side, that means that the two sides of each Flip-Mat add up to 36,000 square feet of dungeon per map—and we're kicking in TWO Flip-Mats so we can cover the four dungeon levels provided by Jason, James, Erik, and Ed. (Believe it or not, Rich's level is much too big to fit on a Flip-Mat!)

Flip-Mats are very popular with RPG players—Paizo has actually just released their 45th Flip-Mat, with new ones coming out every two months.  We hope you'll be as excited about the idea of seeing these dungeon levels in Flip-Mat form as we are!

Will these flip mats also be available for sale on paizo.com? I was not able to upgrade to $100 in time, but I would still pay for the flip-mats.

Goal for $275,000 WE'RE ALL GOING TO DISNEYLAND! No one wants a Pathfinder MMO pfft (as if).
As an idea though you could let the people going into the Alpha make characters that are turned into NPCs in the actual game, that could be cool.

@Mathew - thanks for dropping that bit of wisdom to lift up the $15-$30 level backers.

@Goblinworks. Thanks. Including two flip-mats at the $30 level is an amazing value. You once again proved your statement on the video that you're listening to the players. In response I've upped my backing.

@Goblinworks - yep, completely understand and absolutely not undercutting the value. What I had in mind when writing that question was Jason Bulmahn's Pathfinder Module: Crypt of the Everflame. The module had a flip-mat as a mated pair, if you will, and released together. Which was cool. Thanks.

Mathew, I agree with you. Although I'd love to pledge at the $75 or $100 level, that's a bit much for me with all the other projects I've also pledged to. However, I could pretty easily double my $15 pledge to $30 if there was a bit more "meat" to it.

I do have to say that even dropping the limited quantities (which will no doubt not get too out of control) you'd do better to entice at the $30 level right now.

      1) It's low enough that someone just looking in who has not given yet might go for it.
      2) It's a "key supporter level" that you can take to your investors. People who want to be part of the squad.

Wow,21 hours left and 3,614 more dollars and we'll reach $225k! I'm not sure about $250 though!

    16. Missing_small

Creator Relativemass on June 7, 2012

Mathew is right, filling up the $100 group from the $75 group would only add $10,000. Adding some incentive to the $30 level could help get some of the 950 people in the $15 and $5 levels to up their contribution also. Just a thought.

    17. Goblin.small.small

Creator Goblinworks Inc. on June 7, 2012

Rene, we can't reasonably print Flip-Mats in quantities that small, so there will be other ways to get them. (Don't expect us to undercut the value we're providing to backers, though!)

    22. Goblin.small.small

Creator Goblinworks Inc. on June 7, 2012

Selven, good catch! The $75 and $100 levels were originally limited because we didn't want the number of autographs to get too crazy... and we figured that the ratio between $75 and $100 would be way heavier on the $75 side. Turns out it's much closer to 50/50! At any rate, I think the number of people who could possibly still come in at those levels will be manageable, so we've removed the limits from both.

Creator Selven - The Order of the Goat $7.77 on June 7, 2012

well you have also the plus of 100 places but the worse part is the complete abandon of lower backers, Adding filpmats and bookplate(unsigned) to pdf will serve the scope and cost nothing, or add some graphics or concept art from game as described by others....

    25. Missing_small

Creator Rene Ayala on June 7, 2012

Any way to know if the flip-mats at the $100 level ($250k stretch) are going to be unique and only available to those who contributed? Not being selfish, just wondering if they're unique like the bag at $500 or the coin at $100.

Creator Mathew E. Reuther on June 7, 2012

The math is against the last stretch goal. In part because there's only a bit over 100 spots left at the 100 dollar level. If all of them fill from people at the $75 level that's only a few thousand bucks.

But hey, the key is really in the 805 people sitting at the $15 level. Where the last minute sweetness needs to come in is offering up something (even if it's just an example of what special info/privleges might be) to those at #30 . . .

One of the things that made the OOTS project so successful (beyond it's immense popularity), was the many smaller options available to backers who couldn't afford bigger choices.
