Update #5: Thanks and a status update (or two)

Posted on January 6

GRAZIE TANTO!!!   Thanks very much for putting us well over the top on Pizza Theory.  Production is underway now and we hope to begin to see the first games of the mass production reach our US warehouse right around March 1.

This brings up an  interesting dilemma we have and I wanted to share with you what we think is a fair resolution of it.  We "discovered" the game Pizza Theory almost one year ago, at the wonderful SaltCon games convention held in Salt Lake City every February.  Pizza Theory won the ION award at SaltCon for the best strategy game, against some very good competition.   The Pizza Theory designers, Greg and Brian Powers, are planning to attend SaltCon again this year (February 17-19) and would like to host a "mini-launch" and tournament for Pizza Theory at the same event which gave birth to the game a year ago.  Because the dates of this event are just a few days ahead of when we expect the shipment to arrive at our warehouse, it puts us into a bit of a spot.

With your knowledge and support,  we would like to handle this dilemma in this way.  We plan to airfreight over 48 copies of the game in advance from China to Salt Lake City.  This is quite expensive, adding over $8 per copy to the cost of each game.  But this way there will be a (very) limited number of copies available to host the SaltCon tournament and for attendees to purchase and the designers to sign, etc. If you are a Kickstarter backer, and you plan to attend SaltCon, then please feel free to stop on by and pick up your  Kickstarter copy that you have already paid for. Otherwise, rest assured that these 48 will be the only games made available before the Kickstarter games are sent out.  We are very particular about the Kickstarter-backed games.  When the main  shipment arrives at our warehouse (again we hope that this will be around March 1), the very first games that are sent out go to the Kickstarter backers.  All other orders -- from retail stores, distributors, later-ordering customers, etc.-- are all put on hold until all of the Kickstarter-backed games are sent out.

You are a very generous group, and we hope that we can prevail upon your generosity to allow us to handle the games for the SaltCon event in this manner.  We thank you, as do the designers of this wonderful game.  You will be enjoying your copies soon.

Thanks again--Keith, for Gryphon Games

I don't feel like my copy will be any less awesome because someone else got theirs first. As long as the price doesn't change and the company doesn't take a hit from having to rush copies, I agree that you should do whatever you need to as a business to be successful!

@Jerome - From the way I read it, this will not cost us any extra. They are spending the extra money so that they will have them to promote the game earlier. They're really just asking whether it's OK that they sell some of the games before we get them. I'm fine with that.

No problem here with giving those first supporters a glimpse of pizza goodness.

Update #4: Pictures of the Pizza Theory

Posted on December 23

Hello Everyone-

We just got a production copy of Pizza Theory.  A production copy of a game is created to show the publisher what the final product will look like.  To put it in photography terms, it is a "proof" that we can test to make sure everything about the game is exactly how we specified to the printer.  We just uploaded some pictures of the production copy to the Pizza Theory page on Kickstarter.  Have a look!

Thank you for backing Pizza Theory, your support is appreciated.

Too bad the box doesn't open like an actual pizza box... Do the round dividers roll? They look like Pickup Sticks and seem like they wouldn't stay in place very well.

Out of high school, Keith joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the northern most capital in the world, the southernmost capital in the western hemisphere, and in a location where he watched the sun rise on the Pacific Ocean and set on the Atlantic Ocean. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in electrical engineering from Texas A&M University (Gig ‘Em Ags). As an engineer, Keith worked in the circuit protection and wireless industries.

In addition to his Marine Corps experience, Keith has coached Kung Fu and has worked as a teaching assistant at the University of Chicago's Graduate School of Business, where he presented a decision-making methodology he developed with one of his professors. Currently Keith is working in two dream jobs, one as the Managing Director of Gryphon Games and Eagle Games, and the other as a GMAT instructor for Manhattan GMAT. His biggest teaching responsibility arrived September 20th, 2003, when his wife Pam gave birth to their first child, Logan Alexander.
