Can this be used to drop pay loads of water or dowsing chemicals on fires?

I'm thrilled you guys hit your target and am excited to see what the additional funds can be used for. I see 100's of positive uses of drones/UAV's/UAS's. I'm not sure I'll ask for a McDonalds delivery to a mountaintop like @Kevyn Watkins post (although my 3 boys would likely love it) but I really like the rescue supply delivery idea as well as others that have been bantered about. Go team!

      Shameless plug...
I'm hoping my related KickStarter project "gets off the ground" (it's called Taking Autism to the Sky) too as I see the use of drones and aerial video/photogramy for people with special needs like autism as another great application.

Thanks to everyone for making this funding campaign so incredibly successful! @Kevyn Watkins, Don't worry, we haven't forgotten about our backers! We are working this weekend to get together an update that will announce several t-shirt designs, as well detail some progress on the almost finalized design. We'll have some new renderings of both HLQ as a whole and showing details of our drive train. Stay tuned. We are doing our best to get this update out by Monday.

Thanks again everyone, for making this so successful!

A couple of years ago, when I made it to the top of Mission Peak with my 7 & 8 year-old daughters, I told them I was going to call for a "meals-on-wheels" ice-cream delivery from McDonald's. "Daaad," they said, "cars can't come up here!" "Of course not," I said with an air of authority, "that's what their computer-controlled helicopter is for." "That's ridiculous!" we all agreed, and laughed about it the whole way hiking back down.
I'd like them to laugh just as heartily as they fondly recall, "back when I was young, we didn't have quadcopter ice-cream delivery" while accepting their quadcopter-delivered ice-cream at the top of Mission Peak.
Of course, medical supplies would be better than ice-cream in certain situations. Good luck with the project!

@Kevin Watkins: We have no plans to keep the details of our project a secret in any way. We haven't decided how, exactly, we will release digital forms of all the information, but our $250 award level for hard-copy version is a sure way to be the first people to get complete details of our project from the theory to BOM's and part drawings.

"cellphone, guns, cars, gasoline, these things are equally able to be abused"

absolutely true, but the drones can access also several inaccessible places

@creators you say you will be using a ardupilot, an open-source project, in HLQ. Will you also be releasing your work as open hardware in the spirit of the maker community? As a quad enthusiast I would love to see these being scaled/modified/improved by the global community.

The people who keep feeding the "quadrotors are for terrorists" idea are really stupid. Cellphone, guns, cars, gasoline, these things are equally able to be abused, but the majority of you don't want to halt development of those things do you?

I can strap a camera to an rc helicopter, or a lump of putty to a fixed wing already. Stop being part of the media's fear campaign.

very interesting project, but dangerous too, if one of these quadcopters goes in the "wrong hands"

Thanks so much for your comments and you backing! We are very happy to see that others are getting just as excited as we are about this project! We certainly look forward to future possibilities of a project like this, even if it's a simple pizza delivery (which would make us giddy too!).

Hey guys, I think this is an epic project. I can't wait to see the final result, the possibilities that an autonomous quadcopter like the the Incredible HLQ would open up are endless in my eyes (I am going to be hysterically giddy the first time I get a pizza delivered from one of these!).
From one aspiring inventor to another, I wish ya'll the absolute best of luck on this project!
