A 15-song independent music compilation designed to exist only in the physical world -- there are no future plans to make this available for download.

In an age of streaming media and compromised sound quality, we set out to create a physical artifact -- an actual album that flows from song to song, and can be held in your hands. 15 original songs (many of them never before released) were requested from independent artists across North America. The resulting collection of tracks surpassed my wildest expectations! From fierce aesthetic statements to achingly crafted songwriting to inventive uses of recording techniques -- from the cosmic to the elegaic -- "In The Orchard Of Osiris" (I.T.O.O.O.) meditates on life, death, permanence, and temporality without ever being didactic or simplistic. The unexpected takes place, musically and otherwise, and what unfolds is a new flower in an old field: a genuine listening experience.

And that's no surprise considering the emergent crop of artists involved: Arms And Sleepers, Horde Of Two, Cold Mountain Child, Old Names, Steve Leaf, Drunken Barn Dance, Alex Hug, White Pines, Paleo, Stargrazer, Syscrusher (featuring Chris Bathgate), RxGibbs, Ribbons of Song, Small Houses, and James Collin. These are names that may have dusted your ears already if you dabble in shoegaze, Midwestern indie-folk, experimental music or atmospheric post-rock. If it was ever in any doubt that a musical summit of such styles could take place, I.T.O.O.O. lays that doubt in the ground.

Lovingly sequenced by Peter Richards and mastered by John Krohn at Deep Deep Pink Studio in Lansing, Michigan, I.T.O.O.O. has reached a critical point, the recorded masters poised to ship off to the pressing plant. Of course the plant wants a check -- a big one. Which is fair, after all we want 1,000 copies of the CD in return! Manufacturing and postage all considered, about $2,000 is needed to make this a successful project, and to give our little CD the wings it will need to soar to various radio outlets, print media, zines, blogs and more.

Everyone who helps -- in any amount -- will receive a free exclusive song that is otherwise unavailable: Auburn Lull's keystone track "November's Long Shadows" from their 2008 album "Begin Civil Twilight" -- remixed and deconstructed by Stargrazer. Backers at higher levels will receive copies of the I.T.O.O.O. CD (you could even consider this a fancy way to pre-order) and other goodies. Check out the video and the giving section for more information and details.

You can join us on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/pages/In-The-Orchard-Of-Osiris/142470619121580 or on MySpace http://www.myspace.com/itav. We'll be popping up elsewhere (youtube, bandcamp, etc.) as the project continues to unfold. Please don't hesitate to share these various profiles with your friends, or link them to other parties you think will be interested. You have my sincere thanks for taking the time to learn about this project, and all of our gratitude for your kind support!
