'Occupy The Social' will be a digital archive of footage from the 2011 occupation movement with an emphasis on Occupy LA and SoCal.
I am a sociologist committed to making the occupation movement a success. I need funding to enlarge the scope of a research project that will result in a digital archive of occupy camp footage, particularly around SoCal. All donations will be used for travel to collect more footage and to maintain a server for the digital archive.
I am working as part of the Occupation Communication Committee at Occupy Los Angeles, where my role is to travel between occupations, listen to their concerns, and share strategy. In the past month, I have conducted 70 HD video interviews at Occupy LA, Occupy San Diego, Occupy Irvine, Occupy Long Beach and Occupy Cleveland.
Initially, your contribution will be used to travel between occupations and conduct video tours and interviews. Importantly, the interviews I collect will be made available on www.occupythesocial.com under a creative commons license for documentaries, academic research, and movement purposes.
Due to the foreclosure of several occupations, this project to document the camps, conduct interviews, and make important face-to-face connections between occupations is needed now more than ever. Please donate sooner than later if you believe in this project! I set the amount at a low figure that will allow me to travel through the Southwest, but if I receive funds in excess of $3000 I will happily continue for as long as I can.
We are the ones we've been waiting for!
