A Powerful Update

The design changes to the furnace are in full effect. We've attached some photos of the new beast. As you can see, the twin burners are really putting out some serious heat. Yesterday, the goal was merely to cure the refractory lining and test the burners out. Once the burners kicked in fully, the temperature of the furnace rose to 2,400 F in around four minutes. When we saw how well it was working we couldn't resist charging some iron. So, the last picture is the resulting iron pour. It's just a cast off broken mold, but that's a big pool of molten iron. That's a very, very good sign. Now, we need to make sure all of the parts survived the heat (besides a wheel that melted) and apply a glaze over the refractory.
