I Would Not Be Here Without You
Thank you Thank you Thank you! to all who pledged to support my project. I left Oakland on Saturday, April 7th and have been on the road every day since. I arrived in Clarksdale last night and after numerous technical challenges (including realizing in Southern California that I had forgotten my laptop bag and all of my maps in my traveling companion's bathroom), I am typing this update from my hotel room in Lula, MS, about a fifteen minute drive from Clarksdale.
I have no photo processing software at all so I am going to do my best to share some photos along the way with you using what I can find online or just my raw, unprocessed images. I expect those photographs to be more "polished" once I am able to work on them in Lightroom when I return home.
Below is a quick recap of my journey thus far, along with a link to my flickr site where I will be posting a few photos today in a new set called Call & Response. I hope to provide new photos in that set and updates here, at least once a day throughout the rest of the trip, as time, sleep deprivation avoidance and wifi availability allows.
Day 1: Oakland to Victorville (Two weeks to focus on taking photographs? The reality sets in... most certainly the happiest day of my life thus far.)
Day 2: Victorville to Flagstaff (Let the nosebleeds begin!)
Day 3: Flagstaff to Albuquerque (Oh! New Mexico, your sky intoxicates!)
Day 4: Albuquerque to Oklahoma City (I want to roll around naked in that bright orange-y red soil!)
Day 5: Oklahoma City to Clarksdale (The Trees!)

Thank you again for supporting this project. I would not be here without you.

Thank you so much, Tia. Indeed the lushness of Mississippi surprised. I drove in during the "golden hour" last evening and was literally moved to tears by the unexpected beauty. The people, the trees (oh, these trees), the bayous... it is dreamlike. I remember my dreams but am certain that this one is going to be unforgettable. And I am so looking forward to sharing it with you and everyone else who has played such a vital role in helping it come true. Love and golden light to you, Tia.

How exciting your adventure! Isn't the lushness of Mississippi all the more surprising for it's dismal history? Enjoy your skies, your soils, your trees and the poetry of the delta...
