About this project
I am trying to go over to the UK in October of this year. The record label that put out my record "Wave and Cloud" is based there, so all of the press the record received was from UK publications and blogs. It seems like the right time to make a go of it, while there is some interest in the music.
I want to take a small band with me, comprised of three of the folks who played on the record. We plan to head over there the last week of September, and stay for about three weeks. We already have two shows booked, and are working on many more.
The main thing we need to raise money for is to buy plane tickets for four people, which seem to run about $1,000 per person. The remainder will be to help with travel expenses in the UK (transportation, lodging, etc.).
Don't forget to take a look at the backer rewards over to the side. There's also a FAQ page for this project, if you have questions. And feel free to contact me at thewhiskeypriest@gmail.com.
Thanks for considering this project.
FAQ
-
There seems to be a fair amount of interest in the UK, due to the work that our label over there, Rainboot, has done to spread the word about the record. Positive revues over there, versus hardly any reviews in the States.
-
Well, it may seem like a lot of money, but about 80% of it will be used just to get us over there and back. Plane tickets for four people to the UK gets to be kind of expensive (at least for us). Around $4,000 of the $5,000 goal will be used in this way. The rest will be put towards travel expenses in the UK, along with our own savings.
-
Absolutely! Even if we go over $5,000, we'll by no means be making money on this trip. With plane tickets, travel expenses of getting around the UK, staying in hostels or hotels if there's no couches to crash on, trying to have a solid meal a day - we'll be out of money pretty fast. We're of course doing our own saving and scrounging for this trip, but every dollar helps.

Project By
Connected as Seth Woods (209 friends)
The Whiskey Priest is Austin, TX based songwriter Seth Woods . Seth moved to Austin in 2003, where he soon started making music with his band Sad Accordions. Around the time Sad Accordions finished their first record, A Bad Year For The Sharons, the band’s writing process began to move towards a more collaborative effort, with less of an emphasis on already-existing individual songs. While this was a much needed and welcomed change for the band, it left Seth with a suitcase full of homeless songs. And as these things will often go... Heartache plus unused songs and an identification with a specific character from classic twentieth century literature (one tormented by the struggle between the human and the divine, no less!) equals The Whiskey Priest.
Aided by good friend and fellow Austin musician Alex "hooch" Dupree, Seth began working on The Whiskey Priest recordings in May of 2006. Gathering with a small group of friends in a downtown church attic, they recorded a handful of songs to Alex's four track tape machine. These became the beginnings of Wave and Cloud, a record that would finally see its completion in 2009, and its eventual release in 2010 through the UK label Rainboot.
Coinciding with the Rainboot release of "Lost Wages," The Whiskey Priest took the show on the road in the fall of 2011 to England, Wales, and Scotland, with the generous help of fans and friends, right here, through kickstarter.
Alongside Seth's work as The Whiskey Priest and in Sad Accordions, he also plays regularly in Chris Simpson's Zookeeper and Alex Dupree's Trapdoor Band.
