About this project

Wattup? My name is Kalae (All Day) and I am an emcee/singer/songwriter from Harlem New York, who at the age of 21 is the only female singer to ever win the Brooklyn Bodega Show and Prove. The grand prize was the opportunity to perform on the main stage of the 2010 Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival along side De La Soul. That was a true honor and I enjoyed every minute of it! I have been very lucky during my short career to have shared the stage with other legendary artists such as, MC Lyte, Jean Grae, Talib Kweli, Keith Murray and CL Smooth.

In March of this year I released my debut album AFROMATiKNEOHiPPiEROCK*SOLEMUZiK, produced by chart topping artist Princess Superstar. I did this without the help or backing of a record label, funded it myself, with the support and encouragement of my friends, family and fans! It received rave reviews and was soon noticed by one of the industry's most sought after and highly-acclaimed music video director, Mark Carranceja of Noisemaker Media. We set out to make 4 music videos, the first of which ("O.G.LYRiKALBOOKBAGGER" ft. Homeboy Sandman) debuted on Questlove of the Legendary Roots' music website, OkayPlayer.com and was subsequently picked up by NahRight.com, 2dopeboyz.com and many other popular blogs.

Now it is time to start work on the last 2 videos and this is where the Kickstarter family comes into play! I need to raise $5000 to fund this project. Your funding would contribute towards paying for the location, staff, costumes, props etc.

Firstly let me explain the concept behind the videos. The idea for the first video "BREAKiTDOWN" ft. Mic Wilson, is to create a 40's styled set with a very neo twist. It is vintage, classic, grunge and urban all in one. The second music video "THiSiSiTWHAT" ft. Princess Superstar, has more of an 80's dance video feel with a Matrix, Zion, water battle twist. Think bossa nova, rave party, bboyz and strobe lights. They sound great right? Well I need your help for my visions to become a reality on screen!

Love child of Jimi Hendrix and Lauryn Hill, emcee/singer/songwriter and self proclaimed "vandal," Kalae "All Day" is swiftly making an impression in the underground Hip Hop scene. At the ripe age of 21, the Harlem native has done over 40 shows at popular city venues, such as The Knitting Factory, Public Assembly, Highline Ballroom, Santos Party House, SouthPaw and Ashford and Simpsons Sugar Bar, and has shared the stage with artists Jean Grae, MC Lyte, Kieth Murray, Talib Kweli and more all since the summer of 2008. At an arresting 5'10 (6'' with her afro) Kalae brings the energy and presence of a vet to her stage show and leaves the crowd in awe and begging for more. Kalae released her first recorded project executively produced by chart topping artist Princess Superstar, entitled "AFROMATiKNEOHiPPiEROCK*SOLEMUSiK" March 17th 2010 and the music video for the first single, "O.G.LYRiKALBOOKBAGGER" ft. Homeboy Sandman, was featured on many popular blogs including Okayplayer, NahRight and 2dopeboyz and is approaching 100,000 views.

On "AFROMATIKNEOHIPPIEROCK*SOLEMUSIC" there is a wide range of musical influences spanning from Soul to Electronic to Hip Hop and playfully erases the line between mainstream and underground. It has been compared to the likes of Mos Def's second project by Beyond Race Magazine; "The multi-eclectic approach of Kalae's album raises a similar question as Mos Def's sophomore solo, which challenges listeners' definition of what hip-hop is, by including sounds from some of hip-hop's mother genres."
