Turning our waste cooking oil from restaurants into dishwashing/ hand soap for customers and restaurant owners alike!
Have you ever cooked bacon or used a lot of cooking grease in one of your food preparations and had no idea what to do with all the excess waste oil you now have left in your kitchen. Well pouring waste oil down your drain, toilet, sewer is unsafe, unsanitary, and UN-ECOFRIENDLY. There are over 25,000 active restaurants in NYC alone which produces 14,000,000 gallons of waste oil every year that is not recycled but rather dumped into sewage pipes and in turn destroy the watersheds that surround our neighborhood. At times where waste oil from the restaurant industry is collected the restaurants get nothing back in return but rather have to pay upwards 0f $15.00 per barrel of oil to be removed from their restaurant not to mention the companies that are collecting this oil and turning it into car grease, asphalt binder, and biodiesel pocketing all the money for themselves. What if i told you that that grease your were dumping into your drain can actually be turned into dishwashing soap and by doing this you can finally reuse that cup of cooking oil you have been saving in your kitchen for the last 4 months because you have no idea what to do with it. What if i told you you can also make so much soap from your waste oil that you may even be able to sell it and make money out of something otherwise considered as garbage.
My name is William Chan and I am a Senior student at Parsons the New School for Design and my thesis project involves the fabrication an appliance that recycles your waste into soap and in return reinforce the awareness aspect of oil dumping. Why throw out what can be turned into something useful? In creating soap from waste oil I will be making something light from something dark, something beautiful from something ugly, and above all something clean from something dirty. Not only can this appliance be used in the restaurant industry to produce bar soap but when the bar soap is produced it can be given to local customers as a way to further reinforce the initiative. There has never been an appliance that exists that does this already and imagine the benefits of such a machine. Imagine if you would never have to buy dishwashing/hand soap again for THE REST OF YOUR LIFE!
I am using kickstarter to help me raise the funds necessary to buy materials and pay for the research that I need to fabricate such an appliance. I am 100% confident that such a project can succeed. I have already succeeded in producing soap from waste oil and just need to start prototyping. Please help in making a difference for our environment especially the area around New York City. Help me to create this appliance that will help with waste oil dumping and make a change in our world!
