Artist-in-Research Residency at threewalls Chicago: Veronica Bruce

About this Project:

I am working as an Artist-in-Research resident at threewalls Chicago from Jan 1 to Feb 12, 2012. I have launched a kickstarter page to cover the accommodation fees for this fantastic residency! I am living and working in the studio at threewalls. If you help back this project I will send you one of my photographic prints or “photo paintings” (see rewards for details). While in residency I will be working on an ongoing and shifting installation with studio remnants, unfinished sculptures, and new materials from the threewalls space and experience. Each week the space will be added to, altered, destroyed etc. I will integrate my photographic work which highlights important moments in my material based explorations. My work focuses on the concept of repurposing within my own process and with found materials and discarded studio parts. 

I will hold studio hours every Saturday from 12 to 2 pm from Jan 14 to February 4. and Feb 9 you can see the final version of the evolving piece.  If you are in Chicago PLEASE COME!

I want to use this experience as a platform for discussion about the use of discarded and repurposed materials and how the photograph fits into this process and to the expansion of the vocabulary of painting.

 More about my work:

The urban environment with its waste and discard highly impacts my work.  My surroundings, daily experiences, and materials, impact my direction. Looking at some of the materials used in my pieces (plastic mat, cardboard, tape, glass block bricks, shards of plastic with cement, yoga mats etc.) you can see I use a wide range of discarded, unwanted items that I repurpose. When I’m not finding new potential for physical materials or found objects I utilize photographs I take of materials and of the sculptures in process in my studio. I then rework into the photographic print with paint or collage, creating a final “photo painting.”

Here's How It Works:
 

All-or-nothing funding.  If I don't reach my goal of $1,400, I don't get a dime, and you don't get charged a thing.  It's only if I get enough folks on board who like what I'm doing and who want to support threewalls and my work, then I receive the funding. If I reach my goal by February 12 then you will get charged and I send you a photograph or "photo painting" and I am forever grateful for your support.
