Update #5: One Last Note

Posted on April 30, 2010

Dear Friends,

Our time here on Kickstarter is coming to an end and I would like to thank each one of you for helping us realize and make this project possible. It has been a truly incredible journey and a huge learning experience for us. Most of all I am blown away by the generosity we received from all of you. Because of you we broke even with our budget and exceeded our goal of $1,500. Because of you the dancers and the collaborators will be paid for their time and creative energy. Because of you a dance was made. You have given us a huge gift.

To keep you informed of goings-on with the piece and other creative endeavors in the future, we will be getting in touch with you shortly with requests for your contact information. As the first of the month passes and we begin to receive funds through Kickstarter, we will also be showering you with personal gifts of "Thanks", so get ready!

We hope to see you at our showing at the Center for Performance Research on May 16th, 3pm. There will be a Q&A and a chance to give feedback at the end. We would love to see you all there to share what you helped us create!

Update #2: !!!!!

Posted on March 10, 2010

Well, this weekend was magical---- we reached our goal of $1,500 and then some!

I can't thank you all enough for the love and support that we have received in the last week and a half. To be able to gain this kind of support in just over a week is remarkable. It truly has made such difference in this process and will continue to make a difference as we near our last two weeks before the premiere at Dixon Place and look to what the future has in store for us and our dance. I am so happy that you all could be apart of it.

While I know some of you are not in New York, for those of you who are, I have provided a link for tickets: https://www.ovationtix.com/trs/pe/7810105

For those of you who will not be able to make the premiere, we will be posting a new video of the piece shortly. So stay tuned!

We will continue to fundraise until the 1st of May. If you know anyone who would like to pledge, please point them in our direction. We can use all the help we can get in order to fund a prolonged life for this project.

All my best,
Carlye

Update #1: The gift of thanks

Posted on March 4, 2010

I was in the book store the other day and I picked up Margaret Visser's new book "The Gift of Thanks". The first thing I thought was: I need to read this.
I have been saying "thank you" so much lately that I find myself trying to come up with creative ways to express my gratitude without sounding redundant. The generosity that I have been experiencing since I launched this project on Kickstarter has been overwhelming, to say the least. According to Visser, most people (who speak English) will say "thanks" or thank you" more than 100 times a day. In many cultures it is considered insincere to express thanks more than once, sometimes at all. I was raised with the thought that you can never be too grateful. I don't know if Margaret Visser would agree. She writes about "the humility required to be genuinely grateful, and the essential ability to climb out of one's own head". Maybe this is what I meant when I said I feel the need to find new ways to express my gratitude. I have been and will continue to be humbled by this experience and no matter how many times I say "it" or have trouble finding the right words to express how thankful I am, one thing remains true: It is far better to give, than to receive.
With that said, Thank you.
