About this project

We are an environmental education project with a network of 15 000 students around the Atlantic Ocean. For the last eight months three of us have been travelling around the ocean rim, producing collaborative climate change projects for schools and raising awareness of the problems communities are facing. We are now in Brazil and have been presented with an incredible opportunity.

We are working with a group of conservationists, campaigners and ecologists who can get us access to remote parts of the rainforest where abundant wildlife and virgin forest are still intact. We will be able to produce truly unique films and projects for the school network, including interviews with ecologists, live link ups between schools and experts, and dramatic film material of the forest's flora and fauna. Material the average high school student would never usually encounter in class.

However, nothing in the Amazon comes cheap. We need to raise $2000 to access the forest 1000 miles up-river from Belem, pay for guides and specialist equipment, and have enough left over to get out again.

If you have an adventurous itch, or care about how future generations understand our impact on the natural world, then please support this project. We are desperate not to miss out on the opportunity.

Atlantic Rising

We are an ambitious environmental education project, currently on a 32 000 mile expedition to circumnavigate the Atlantic Ocean overland. We have already been through Europe and West Africa, crossed the ocean by container ship, and are now about to embark on a journey through the Americas from Brazil to Nova Scotia.

During our project we are establishing an educational network between 15 000 students around the ocean rim. We have schools in thirteen countries, from Scotland and Canada to Ghana and Brazil. Throughout the expedition we are carrying out climate change research which we are formatting into education projects for the schools involved in the network.

We are currently fundraising for $2000 to enable us to ship ourselves and our vehicle, 1000 miles up the Amazon river to carry out some work with an organisation campaigning against deforestation in the area. This is a unique opportunity to produce incredible educational resources, right from the heart of the rainforest.

More information about our work can be found on our website www.atlanticrising.org
