The goal of this project is to create a DVD centered around epilepsy and the short film "A Seizure By Nathan Jones".
THE FILM
Ever since I had my first seizure when I was 18 years old, people have always asked me, "What is it like to have a seizure?"
Well, it's always been extremely difficult to them understand in words what I was really going through. So I got together with director Charles Son and some of our friends, and we made a short film that recreates a seizure from beginning to end — from my point of view.
Every seizure is unique and deeply personal to each individual, hence the title of the film: A Seizure By Nathan Jones.
The ultimate goal with the film has always been to share it with the world. This month, we have decided to finally release the entire film online:
THE DVD
The film captures exactly what I feel during a seizure — it's about the visceral experience. But we also want to create a comprehensive view of what it's like to live with epilepsy.
We want to supplement and enhance the film with a series of documentaries that examines the various medical and social implications of epilepsy. We're going to explore the impact it has on families, examine different treatments, and talk to a lot of great people from the epilepsy community.
Some of the footage we have already compiled, and some we have yet to shoot. Once it's complete, we hope to have a comprehensive DVD that is an emotional experience as well as a great educational tool for people with or without epilepsy.
In addition to the complete short film, the DVD will include:
-8-page booklet about the film and epilepsy awareness
-Unveiling of a special viewing pod for the film at the 2011 Beaux Arts Ball in Lexington, KY
-30-minute TV show about Epilepsy hosted by California legend Huell Howser
-Documentary about two teenagers with Epilepsy
-One-on-one conversations with the Experts!
-audio commentary
-and more!
WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP
With the funds raised from this Kickstarter page, we'll be able to pay for the upcoming shoots as well as the music licensing, editing, coloring, and graphic design. It will also cover the upfront costs of copying, printing, and packaging the DVDs.
If you're interested in helping make this project into a reality, please consider donating! We have some great incentives listed to the right so be sure to check them out! If you aren't able to donate but want to help, please check out the film online at www.a-seizure.com and share it with your friends and family!
What is Kickstarter?
Kickstarter is a website that enables people to support projects that they believe in. We're hoping to fund our project with help from those who want to make it happen just as much as we do!
How to Pledge!
Just click on the green "Back This Project" button in the upper right-hand corner. You'll be asked to input your pledge amount and select your reward! From there, you'll go through an Amazon checkout process. You must finish this process to successfully pledge to this project!
What if we don't reach our goal?
The project isn't funded unless we meet our goal by December 18th. If we don't reach our goal, no one is charged a penny. It's all or nothing!
Can we exceed our goal?
Yes, we can! When we first made the short film, a dedicated group of people donated a lot of time and resources into making it happen. If we end up with any excess funds, we'll finally be able to go back and pay everyone for their hard work. I can attest that they certainly deserve it!
Can I pledge if I don't live in the United States?
Yes, you can still support this project if you live outside of the United States. However, we do ask that you please add $10 for international pledges so we don't go broke just trying to mail you your reward.
Other Questions?
