A washed up actor struggles to reconcile with his daughter realizing he's missed out on the role of a lifetime - a father.
BACK TO ONE - An independent film
I love movies and I have always dreamed of being a part of the industry since I was I was a child. I’m proud to say I’ve made many of my dreams come to fruition in my career, but there’s one thing that’s still on my bucket list: to film a movie of my own, so here’s my chance.
Back to One is an independent movie about a washed up actor who is struggling to reconcile with his daughter and realizes he’s missed out on the role of a lifetime…. the role of a father.
This dramatic story touches on universal themes such as letting go, what it means to be a father, and forgiveness.
WHAT INSPIRED ME TO DO THIS?
I’ve always known I would eventually write and direct my own film, and recently I realized the opportunity and timing was just right. I’ve been teaching on camera acting classes in Cape Cod and Plymouth, MA since 2009 and to date I’ve trained over 2000 actors. I cast my movie from the talent pool of my own acting classes. I know these actors, what their capable of, how vulnerable and authentic they are. My students are the inspiration to do this project.
I wish I could write a movie for all of them to star in, but I don’t have the budget for that type of film, but what I do have is a small story with a small cast and I will make this film with a small budget.
My goal is $5,000 dollars.
Due to the work I do and the connections I have in the industry, many of the elements it takes to film a movie, I already have:
WHAT I HAVE
• Camera, gear
• Editing equipment
• Director/writer $600
• Director of Photography $500
• 2 Lead actors $400 ($200 each)
• Craft services $500
• Locations $300
• Copyright of screenplay $40
• Sound equipment $500
• DV tapes $600
• DVDs $200
• Press kits/swag $600
• Entry fees to film festivals $200
• Props $200
• Misc. $360
Principal photography starts in May of 2012 and filming will occur throughout the summer and fall.
My goal is to enter this film into the Sundance film festival and other film festivals throughout the nation.
How Kickstarter Works
It's never easy to ask for money, and at the same time, it seems many people are starting projects this way, and I thought I would jump on the wagon and get off my butt and make a small movie. If you don't know much about how kickstarter works it's pretty simple. If I don't reach my goal of $5,000.00, whatever you donate will NOT be collected. I only receive the amount you choose to donate if I meet the entire goal of $5000.
So, THANK YOU for taking the time to review my passion project. I want to share a few of my students work with you and the rest of the world. They are amazing actors and deserve to be seen. My hope is that we can all use this project to showcase our talents and skills and who knows... it could lead to more work.
Every little bit helps, so please help spread this link with everyone you know. I have thirty days to reach my $5000 goal. I can't thank you enough for your time and support.
Many thanks and remain inspired,
Kevin Lasit - writer and director of Back to One.
