A completely student run production of this modern play exploring a crumbling family through new forms of storytelling.
About Crumble (Lay Me Down, Justin Timberlake)
It’s Christmas, and a year after the untimely death of Janice’s father. Her hair has turned to wire and her breath has turned yellow, as though she swallowed a pear months ago, but can’t digest it. The bursting soap bubbles of her laughter have been long silenced. While Janice sings creepy songs and holds spiteful conversations with her dolls, her mother, Clara, so filled with sorrow she can’t see past her nose, cooks elaborate meals and does Pilates. Clara looks to her well-meaning sister, Barbara, for help understanding Janice. Barbara helps. Badly.
While Janice works on a secret project furnished by the seven bizarre Christmas gifts her mother reluctantly buys her, she and her mother are visited by their dream men - for Janice, a heroic, encouraging, Justin Timberlake and for Clara, a comforting Harrison Ford. While Harrison helps Clara free herself of the guilt she feels over Father’s death, Justin assists Janice in her complicated, beautiful, destructive plan.
Meanwhile, their apartment, once a mansion, now in complete disarray, whines and moans over his state of neglect, and warns his inhabitants of the necessary actions he intends to take. “Look up,” he repeats, nudging the unhappy women toward loose wires and cracks in the ceiling. “It will only hurt a moment.” When Janice’s project comes to fruition, destruction brings mother and daughter back together, and the soap bubbles begin to burst again.

About Student Theatre At Northwestern
Northwestern possesses a vibrant and highly collaborative community of student-produced theatre. Producing over 60 shows a year, from large-scale musicals to intimate dramas, the student theatre scene is one of the largest in the country, providing invaluable hands-on training for future theater professionals.
There is more to the process of creating a show than what happens in the rehearsal room. The combined efforts of the design and business teams create the world of the play and ensure that he experience from the first flyer to the last bow is a cohesive event
Designers are challenged to both create a unique design and work in conversation with the other design areas. Hours of research, sketches, and model building are required to communicate a design idea to the rest of the team before it can be implemented.
The business team is responsible for raising funds for the production and filling the audience come show time. It is this team's job to create a brand for the show as well as communicating to the larger campus why it is relevant and worth seeing.
